About?
I have spent a lot of time playing in various bands over the years so I thought I'd have a go at doing the lot myself and see what happened.I am a guitarist by trade and can get by on bass.
I am in no way a singer so I apologise in advance for my lack of vocal talent. The songs will be re-sung by some very talented friends of mine but until then, I have tried to make my vocals sound as inoffensive as possible.
I started playing guitar at the age of about 12 and have been in bands ever since. Playing around in Croydon during the glory years with a band called Hazard, my first....ahem 'serious band', as if we could ever be called serious!!
The next band after Hazard was called Owen and after a couple years of writing and recording in Darrens home studio, we recorded an album with grammy award winning producer Steve Levine. We were also subject of a weekly slot on BBCs Going Live Saturday morning show and finished the series off with a live performance in the studio in Glasgow. We also played various high profile gigs such as the Children in Need live concert in Belfast, Party in the Park in Bristol and the Fleadh in Londons Finsbury Park as well as a live acoustic set on BBC radio 2 with Janice Long and appeared on Channel 4s Popworld. We followed that with a west coast radio tour of Ireland. Unfortunately, due to a serious lack of funding, what we thought was going so well came to a rather abrupt end.After Owen, I played guitar on a mini promo tour with Faith Hill. This was mainly TV shows around Europe and the UK including TOTP.
After a few months of basically doing nothing, I joined a band called Tarnel Baby playing bass guitar this time and recorded a few tracks and played a few shows with them, the highlight of which being a live set at the Bristol balloon fiesta in front about 18,000. This lasted for about 18 months until it appeared it was time to move on again.This almost takes us up to the present time.
Until very recently I played with a few friends on a project that we hadn't named but was going to be a completely acoustic rock band. Started out pretty well but never gained the momentum it should have so I bought my own basic studio setup and thought I'd have a go myself. I must say, I am enjoying my writing as much as ever and it's just great to be doing something creative. I would love to earn a living just writing songs for people all day long but hey... who ever gets what they really want.
