The Ship

About Me

What is The Ship?
The Ship is a small pub in the middle of Croydon and a true Croydon landmark, having been virtually unchanged for the better part of nearly a century.

A retreat from the usual trendy, fluorescent lit, sticky-floored, chav-infested bars that you'd normally find in Croydonia, The Ship is what you'd call an "alternative" pub, but the nights range from swing through to 80s to punk to classic rock to good, honest heavy metal. Not to mention the frequent live music nights and Battle of the Bands competitions.

Aside from the music, The Ship offers real ales like Hobgoblin, Forty Niner and Brakespear Bitter. Plus good, home-made food including delicious roast dinners Sundays.

Upcoming Events:

Are you in a band? Would you like to play at The Ship?
If so, then The Ship wants to hear from you. All we need to consider booking a gig is a demo to listen to and to know what technical requirements you have. That's it! It really is that simple. So please don't be shy, if you want a chance to play the last real pub in Croydon, get in touch with us now; our number is 020 8688 2810. Please note that this website is NOT run by any bookers or promoters for the pub. We do try to get through all the messages we get, but it takes us a lot of time and if all you want is a gig, you'd be better off calling the management.

UNSIGNED SHOWCASE GIGS - NerveCast Radio
The Ship is pleased to be working in conjunction with NerveCast Radio to showcase local live music on Wednesday nights. We can provide a 7k sound/PA rig with a 48 track mixing desk, state of the art computerised light show, full backline (you'll need to bring your own snare drums and cymbals), an excellent sound stage well located at the front of the venue with adequate floor space holding up to 150 people and an engineer with 25 years experience of live music production. The gig will be fully promoted through our myspace and also by NerveCast and your music will be featured on their on-line radio show which goes out to 27 countries. You are welcome to sell your merchandise in our venue. There's no charge for all this - all we ask is that you bring a guaranteed 20 people with you (excluding band members).
If you are an unsigned band and want the opportunity to show off your talents to an enthusiastic audience contact John at NerveCast (see our Top Friends). Or phone him on 07853 067585.

There are establishments in town who have helped us and we have helped them, either directly or indirectly, and we offer them our thanks.
