RogueSounds

Seems like it's all quickening.

About Me

Welcome to RogueSounds' Myspace profile.

To those who may be confused by the musical content, please let me explain.

RogueSounds is a kind of 'concept album' - and a work in progress. It's informed by the spirit of 'culture jamming', an attempt to capture fragments of the vast and unending media torrent, mess with them a bit, then send them back out there. It's all good clean fun in the name of expressing dissident perspectives.

This is not about personal attacks or the venting of fury. It's about imagining a world in which powerful leaders could display their humanity amidst the struggles of their decision making. Imagine if George Bush reflected upon his past actions and had a kind of epiphany, in which he admitted to himself the horrendous consequences of his decisions. Imagine then that he felt remorse for these decisions and decided to dedicate his life thereafter to the righting of wrongs in the world.

The transformed President Bush is the thread that binds this imaginary journey together. The third piece Quickening was recently uploaded. It has George throwing down the ethical gauntlet to John Howard on the subject of global warming.

They'll be together in the flesh soon at Sydney's APEC meetings. I can't get them to visit this page unfortunately... Anyway - comments on any of the pieces are welcome. To quote George: "peace and love!"

Dave Weir is a musician, songwriter and composer who has recently been using sampled political speech to construct commentaries on what he sees as some of the more pressing global challenges that have been unfolding this decade.

The 'war on terror', global warming and peak oil have inspired him to weave the words of world leaders throughout his musical creations. Rather than follow political mashup's well trodden path of heavy satire, ridicule and abuse, Weir's works invite listeners to imagine a world in which leaders awaken to the destructive nature of their past decisions and are redeemed by acknowledgement of their misleadership.

Influences:

The music of RogueSounds is influenced by an awareness of peak oil, global warming, rising global population, the catastrophic failure of neo-conservative policy in a climate of post-9/11 hysteria, and non-violent action and communication.

It is inspired by a hopeful vision of a world in which leaders reflect an emerging awareness in humanity - that the old mechanisms (violence and dishonesty) and motivating forces (money) of power have led us to the brink.

Things are coming to a head.

Sounds Like:

Sounds like this music is free to download, to reflect and comment upon, to enjoy or despise.

The music is not for sale (who could clear all those samples?!).

The Redemption of George W is the first in a series. Rendering Babylon is the second, in which a redeemed President Bush urges Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to come clean on the quaint CIA practice of "extraordinary rendition", by which terror suspects are allegedly flown to states outside US legal jurisdiction for "information extraction".

More will follow soon.
