About Me

OFFICIAL BIO
Elizabeth Saunders' awards include the Western Regional Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Regional MacAllister Awards in Chicago and the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards. Her developing operatic career has already taken her around the U.S, Germany, Italy and Japan. Also an avid concert singer, she has performed at Carnegie Hall with the American Composer's Orchestra and has been soloist with choirs and orchestras throughout the United States, in Western and Eastern Europe, and on recordings made for Moscow Radio, the BBC and NPR.
2007 has taken Elizabeth to Japan where she sang Florence Pike in "Albert Herring" at the New National Theater Tokyo. Her success there caused a return visit to Tokyo to teach voice technique to the singers in the New National Theatre Tokyo's Young Artist Program. Additional 2007 performances include numerous Ives concerts throughout New England, performances of Mozart's "Requiem" and the Vivaldi "Gloria", as well as "Suzuki" in Connecticut. Upcoming engagements include "Charlotte" (A Little Night Music) and the "Old Lady" (Candide) in California, as well as ongoing concerts of the complete songs of Charles Ives around New England.
A bright and genuine stage presence, Elizabeth Saunders' voice and command as an actress have earned her reviews with descriptives such as spectacular, creamy, sensuous, powerful, sweet and perfect. (see Reviews above) With her warm, penetrating lower register and brilliant upper register, she possesses a voice and persona that grab an audience and take command.
In addition to taking time to prepare the role of Sister Helen in "Dead Man Walking" with composer Jake Heggie, 2006 engagements included performances as Flosshilde & Rossweisse in Wagner's "Ring" with the Long Beach Opera and the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh; Lola in "Cavalleria Rusticana" and La Ciesca in "Gianni Schicchi" with the Connecticut Opera; Bach's "Magnificat", "Hänsel" and many concerts of Charles Ives songs in Connecticut.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: MySpace.com/ElizabethSaundersMezzoSoprano
Band Members: Just me, a free-lance solo classical singer, making music and creating theater with accompanying musicians, conductors and stage directors around the world. I also teach voice independently. (see http://www.privatelessons.com in search bar, type "Saunders")
Influences: Life, each of my voice students, so many of my singer colleagues and just about every director and conductor I've worked with (you people teach me so much!), the old, old lady I heard singing to herself in the apartment above me in Italy as she hung the laundry out to dry - not always in tune, and not traditionally beautiful, yet I have never been moved so by a voice. It was the purest, gentlest, most vulnerable and sincere emanation from a soul I have ever heard... David Mamets book True and False: Heresy and Common Sense for the Actor.
Sounds Like: Hopefully, my soul speaking intimately to yours. The reviews have called it: lush, intense, spectacular, big, beautiful, touching, creamy, mystical, sensuous, wonderful, clear, dazzling, powerful, sassy, and with just the right amount of juice.
Record Label: Currently seeking new management
Type of Label: None
