Rocio Tamez holds a master degree in vocal performance. A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Tamez also holds a degree in Violin performance, from the University of Southern Mississippi. Tamez is a member of the Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and often plays as member of several orchestras around the South East of the United Sates. As a singer, Tamez has performed as a soloist with the Southern Chorale, Southern Chamber Singers, Vittoria Vocal Ensemble, Youth Symphony Orchestra of Monterrey, The University of Nuevo Leon Symphony Orchestra, and Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. Tamez is an experienced Latin-American popular music singer, she has performed professionally for several years, and has recorded solo albums, music for television and film. Tamez is also an experienced early music singer. She has sung the roles of Flora in “La Traviata†with the Mississippi Opera, Mrs. Ott in "Sussanah" with the Southern opera and musical theatre company. She made her first operatic appearance in Mexico in 2006 as Lucilla in “La Scala di Seta†in Monterrey, Mexico. Tamez has been a soloist for various concerts, opera galas, and oratorios in USA and Mexico. Tamez is the winner of the 2004 William Gower Concerto Competition, and the NATS 2004 and 2007 Vocal Competition. She is currently a doctoral student in vocal performance and pedagogy at The University of Southern Mississippi under the instruction of Dr. Maryann Kyle.
