BAD FATHERS

One moment they’re rapping “Too fat to strip” and the next they’re singing “I can’t stand to see you hurting.” MTV dubbed them, “spazzed out punk rap.” Call the Bad Fathers’ unique sound what you want, their fans come to their live shows singing and cheering.

“Mixing the free-for-all fun of punk rock with the street sensibility of hip hop & sexy swagger of reggae, Bad Fathers bring an amusing, sarcastic and intelligent project.” URB Magazine

Bad Fathers versatile six- piece joined forces in Iowa City three years ago. The mohawked cousins, Austin Galante and fittingly, Cousin, alternately sing and rap alongside the vibrant rhyming of Juan Hooks. Bassist Kyle Marxen, guitarist/producer Jethro, and drummer Mike Reed complete the group.

In 2005, The Bad Fathers released their second full-length album titled Angels in the Chamber. The album features the single “Bragging Rights” with Cee-Lo Green of Gnarls Barkley fame. Angels in the Chamber also received contributions from Righteous Babe artist Brian Wolff, Southern Records’ William Elliott Whitmore, and hip hop producer Tack Fu. “Bragging Rights” was featured on Impose magazine’s summer sampler.

Known for their rambunctious partying and frequent nakedness, Bad Fathers have consistently toured the past two years including 21 dates on Warped Tour 05’. Their charisma, boyish charm, up tempo energy, and sense of humor are witnessed in their live show. Known to perform wearing nothing but loincloths, Bad Fathers have shared the stage with Ying Yang Twins, Lil’ Jon, Slick Rick, Rahzel, Lost Prophets, Atmosphere, Gym Class Heroes, Quietdrive, Cee-Lo Green and numerous other fine talents.

Bad Fathers have been featured on Fuse Televisions’ “Tattoo Stories” and “Warped Tour Wrap Up ‘05”. The song “January” from their first LP, Go Poke A Hole In Yourself, was pressed on half a million discs for UPN’s Digital Lounge Series. The song, “Too Fat to Strip,” also featured on Go Poke A Hole In Yourself; charted on college radio charts including Record Breakers, Rapattacklives.com and Insomniac. The track, “Hurting,” off of Angels in the Chamber was featured in the wakeboard movie UPDOG, which was released earlier this year from award winning producer Ronnie Romero. Most recently, the song “Guess What Daddy Wants” also off of Angels, will be heard in the Lionsgate film “College” which is scheduled for a May ’08 release.

The results of their hard work are showing. In 2007, they showcased three times during SXSW in Austin, TX. They have garnered a wide array of national media attention selling over 9,000 albums independently.

“Who could have imagined that the next potential ground-breaking sound would come from Iowa of all places?” -- Insomniac Magazine

“In the tradition of the notorious Iggy Pop, Axl Rose, and Tommy Lee; comes hip hop’s own bad boys: Bad Fathers.” --Black Beat Magazine

“Discomforting oddity of the day award goes to Iowa’s own Bad Fathers.” --The Boston Herald

“… then you have lunatics in loin cloths calling themselves Bad Fathers playing spazzed out punk rap tunes...” --MTV

“The Bad Fathers posit themselves as Iowa City’s live hip-hop bad-boys: imposing mohawks, endless consumption of beer, and a hit-and-run strategy with the fairer sex. But in reality they go much deeper than cartoonish caricature. This pensive track (Kith Me On the Lisp) showcases their ability to reflect beneath the surface. It also reminds us that hip-hop tracks recorded by live bands can be just as killer as programmed beats. Think: the Roots caught in a decadent Midwestern adolescence. This song is my soundtrack for 2007.” --Cokemachine Glow

“This album is well done, features a wide variety of sounds, from dub, to new-wave, to punk, and wraps it up in a tight cocoon of hip-hop party vibes.” --Punk TV
