Bad Fathers versatile six- piece joined forces in Iowa City three years ago. The mohawked cousins, Austin Galante and fittingly, Cousin, alternately sing and rap alongside the vibrant rhyming of Juan Hooks. Bassist Miah Handley, guitarist/producer Jethro, and drummer Tye Friis complete the group.
In 2005, The Bad Fathers released their second full-length album titled Angels in the Chamber. The album features the single “Bragging Rights†with Cee-Lo Green of Gnarls Barkley fame. Angels in the Chamber also received contributions from Righteous Babe artist Brian Wolff, Southern Records’ William Elliott Whitmore, and hip hop producer Tack Fu. “Bragging Rights†was featured on Impose magazine’s summer sampler.
Known for their rambunctious partying and frequent nakedness, Bad Fathers have consistently toured the past two years including 21 dates on Warped Tour 05’. Their charisma, boyish charm, up tempo energy, and sense of humor are witnessed in their live show. Known to perform wearing nothing but loincloths, Bad Fathers have shared the stage with Ying Yang Twins, Lil’ Jon, Slick Rick, Rahzel, Lost Prophets, Atmosphere, Gym Class Heroes, Quietdrive, Cee-Lo Green and numerous other fine talents.
Bad Fathers have been featured on Fuse Televisions’ “Tattoo Stories†and “Warped Tour Wrap Up ‘05â€. The song “January†from their first LP, Go Poke A Hole In Yourself, was pressed on half a million discs for UPN’s Digital Lounge Series. The song, “Too Fat to Strip,†also featured on Go Poke A Hole In Yourself; charted on college radio charts including Record Breakers, Rapattacklives.com and Insomniac. The track, “Hurting,†off of Angels in the Chamber was featured in the wakeboard movie UPDOG, which was released earlier this year from award winning producer Ronnie Romero. Most recently, the song “Guess What Daddy Wants†also off of Angels, will be heard in the Lionsgate film “College†which is scheduled for a May ’08 release.
The results of their hard work are showing. In 2007, they showcased three times during SXSW in Austin, TX. They have garnered a wide array of national media attention selling over 9,000 albums independently.
Bad Fathers recently recorded a song with Tre Hardson (from The Pharcyde). Other guest appearances, including Ras Kass, will be featured on their spring 2008 release, tentatively untitled. .
