Hurricane was an often-overlooked melodic rock band that had some minor success in the late 80's. They will forever be remembered as being the band formed by the kid brothers of Quiet Riot's Carlos Cavazo and Rudy Sarzo.
Quiet Riot's Kevin DuBrow introduced Robert Sarzo (guitar) and Tony Cavazo (bass) to each other in the early 80's. When the duo finally decided to form a band together in Los Angeles, they recruited vocalist Kelly Hansen and drummer Jay Schellen. With little label interest, the band decided to release a mini-album themselves, Take What You Want. The album and constant touring led to their getting a major label deal.
Over The Edge proved to be Hurricane's crowning success, with the Top 40 hit "I'm On To You". However in late 1989, Sarzo left the group and was replaced by Doug Aldrich (ex-Lion). This lineup recorded one album before Aldrich moved on to House Of Lords and the rest of the group quickly disintegrated with the onslaught of grunge. Schellen recorded with both Unruly Child and Sircle Of Silence while Hansen did a considerable amount of session work.
Schellen suggested that Hansen help with the recording of Unruly Child's second release, and shortly after they agreed to resurrect Hurricane. Sean Manning (guitar), Carlos Villalobos (guitar) and Larry Antonino (bass) rounded out the new version of the band, and they released Liquifury.
Take What You Want". The album and constant touring eventually led to a major label deal though as they signed with Enigma Records. They did one US top 40 single called "I'm On To You" and also five top 5 MTV videos.
