About Me

Hailing from Gods own county, in the summer of love, Jake Riley has been writing songs for longer than he cares to remember. In Mid '06 due to repeated pressure, he came out from behind the drums, his first instrument, to front his own songs. Although Jake admits that behind the kit is where he feels most comfortable, and singing from there is something he's never had a problem with. So who knows just what may happen.
A Bradford lad, Jake has served his time on the pub/club circuit over the years, and more recently was the drummer in pop/rock band Zico, who sadly left us in 2004. Fate obviously had it however that Riley was meant to happen and so here we are. At last.
Rileys music seems a little tricky to define. Some say they hear Lennon in there, others a bit of Ray Davies, with some country melancholy thrown into the mix. Whatever people hear, the general concensus seems to be that it is unmistakably English.
In '06 Jake started work on an album of nine original songs, entitled 'Bonfires'. He laid down the bones himself with the drums/acoustic guitar/main & harmony vocals/piano/balalaika & percussion etc, with friends later adding their gifts to the music. It was approaching the stage ready for final mixing & mastering, with just the main guide vocals to be re-done, when sadly funds ran out. And so what we have left is basically a rough mix, although it sounds much more than that thanks to the talents of wonder engineer Chi/Skip Monkey.
At present, Jake has just started on rehearsals with the band Riley, of which 'Bonfires' is the starting block. Demos from/of this band will be put up here in due course, watch this space.. This album was the initial reason for the set up of this site, but now seems to be just the beginning....
(Jake would like to add that he has now included the lyrics for the above songs, ta..)
