Remember Gram Parsons

i dream of soul country, of cosmic, what i call cosmic, cosmic american music

About Me

"Gram's music was important in American music for a number of reasons. One is that Gram was able to absorb the influences of country music and he had rock and roll sensibilities. I like to say he was one part rock and roll, one part country and two parts heartache."

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Emmy's first single from her first solo album from 1975. Harris wrote the lyrics to "Boulder To Birmingham", a bittersweet adieu to Parsons ("The hardest part is knowing I'll survive") sung in a heartbroken, heartbreaking voice, almost a whisper. Played live with Gram's (and Elvis's) old back up band. Emmylou Harris - From Boulder to Birmingham

"I was very inspired by Gram's music. In my own way, I was trying to carry on his music. I didn't know what Gram would have done. I knew that he hated the term 'country–rock.' To him, it implied something that was lesser than the sum of the parts.
"And I knew that he loved the beauty of the traditional music, but he infused it with his own poetry. You take a song like 'Sin City,' it has all the structure of those beautiful Louvin Brothers songs, but the words could've only been written by someone of his generation and his experience."
-Emmylou Harris

Music:

The Pacers The Legends The International Submarine Band The Byrds The Burritos The Flying Burrito Brothers The Fallen Angels It was natural that Richards' and Parsons' would bond over their love of music. Within their time spent together, Parsons would visit Richards in France, who was staying at Nelcotte, while the Stones were recording their epic classic, "Exile On Mainstreet." The Stones guitarist has stated in recent years that while he never copied Parsons, "things rub off," adding, "it's not so much a matter of nick that lick or take that thing, it's like osmosis. We osmosed a lot." “I feel like I started as a folk singer in my teens. And then working with Gram as a duet singer, just opened up something in my heart and my head, and the world that I live in now is really because of singing with Gram. He led me to my solo voice, in a way." This is a video of Gram and Emmy singing "Big Mouth Blues," live in Liberty Hall, 1973
