About Me

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU ACCEPT MY ADD REQUEST, SO THAT I CAN THANK YOU!!! **********The Whole Story - Mike Kosterman Bio - Music became influential at the age of 15 when Mike's brother Clif had a band. Mike wanted nothing more than to be in that band. It never happened, but the desire sparked a life long love of song writing and music. The desire that was planted in Mike's mind then, has never left him. Mike's brother gave up music. He is now a personal security specialist for celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Connolly & Sharon Stone. Mike's Mom gave him a guitar for his 16th Birthday. Mike immediately began turning the poems he had been writing, into songs, and learning how to play his favorite cover songs. At the age of 17 Mike had his first paid gig at the California Racquet Club in Surrey BC.Shortly after that Mike joined the Canadian Armed Forces. This was the first real break from music. There were some acoustic performances however, including Yokosuka & Tokyo Japan, Halifax Nova Scotia, Sitka Alaska and more. Once the initial youthful excitement of playing at war had worn off, the thought of 20 years of military life was enough motivation for Mike to find a way to get out. After a brief stint in the brig Mike was honorably released from the forces. Once a civilian again Mike picked up his guitar and began to write, sing and play. Mike met Rick Munro, who now goes by the name of Lochlyn. The two formed a guitar. duo that played in pubs all over British Columbia. At that time Mike and Rick were taking acting lessons in Vancouver BC. Mike landed some modeling jobs and some insignificant parts in TV commercials, TV Series and Feature Films. Rick's desire to focus on the film industry and Mike's desire to focus on the music made it a bad match. Before the two parted ways they penned a tune called "Leavin' the Bad Times Behind". Some time later Mike recorded that song at Beat Productions in Vancouver. One day Mike received a phone call from John Ford at Penta Records in Vancouver. A Bruce Allen Company. They were interested in the song "Leavin' the Bad Times Behind," performed by Mike, and written by Mike with Lochlyn Munro. "I thought someone was playing a joke on me. I didn't realize it was for real until I saw the gold records with Bryan Adams' name on them all over the hallway walls as I walked in".Mike attempted to put together a band at that time. One of the members was Dale Wallace, who is now the keyboard/vocalist with Emerson Drive. Although the record company showed interest a deal was not made. The fact that a record company was interested at all, gave Mike some confidence to write more songs. Then in 2004 Mike entered a singing contest in Langley BC hosted by Annie Andrews. During the contest the feeling of wanting to be a performer really came on strong for Mike. While in Langley Mike had the opportunity to perform with Ken McCoy's band Crosswind (Prayin' for Rain, Georgia on a Fast Train, Mexican jail). "Once I played with those guys, that was it. I knew then and there that I had made a mistake by ignoring the importance of following my dream of being a performer, not just a writer. Ken's generosity is incredible". Mike hooked up with some local artists and began working on some original songs. It was the summer of 2004 when the 1996 version of "Just Like Me" became "Ride Through The Rockies". A few lyrical changes were made and slightly "rockier" approach was taken. This song is about paying respect to the King of Rock 'N" Roll, and of the love of a woman. It is scheduled for release in the spring of 2007.The band did not last long, and while playing in the clubs Mike realized that he really wanted to focus on original music. It was where his heart was. So in 2005 Mike Kosterman became a solo artist. His first perfomance was at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival. In the Winter of 2005 The British Columbia Country Music Association released a Compilation CD of local "Up and Coming" artists called "On The Horizon 2005". "When I Cut Loose" was chosen for the CD. It is track #14.On September 25th Mike Kosterman released his first song to commercial radio in Canada. "When I Cut Loose" is a tribute to the 40 hour a week workers that like to party on the weekend. This song is currently airiing on several Commercial Radio Stations accross Canada. The support at independent radio has been very encouraging so far too. Special thanks to independent radio personality, Country "Claudette" Rose, from Maine USA for her continued support. And a huge thanks to June and Linda at KHBW radio in England for their support. Also Susie Doo & Mandy to at the BZOO, and Rob MacArthur at World Country Music Radio. On Feb 2nd Mike returned from Monterrey Mexico to Vancouver Canada. He is currently in talks with a new management company, and hopes to have great news soon.THANK YOU ALL!

Influences: Mom is an Elvis fan. She used to lay me on the carpet, turn on The King, and do some housework. I'm pretty sure that had an affect on me.In my teens, I discovered The Eagles. Don Henley soon became my favourite singer, and The Eagles my favourite band.Elvis, Bob Seger, Bryan Adams, April Wine, Trooper, Prism, Elton John, Journey, Bad Company, ZZ Top, ACDC, Kiss, Gordon Lightfoot, Jimmy Buffett, The Marshall Tucker Band, Lynrd Skynrd, Molly Hatchet, The Guess Who, BTO, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Angel City, and many many more, gave me something to sing along to.Garth Brooks showed me the performer I wanted to be. My first country influences were John Michael Montgomery and Clint Black. Also, I grew up in Vancouver BC, and I had the best role model in music. His name is Bryan Adams, and he's still doing it today! Thanks Bryan!I am the result of the influences of all these artists, and I thank them all, sincerely, for that influence.
