Too many to mention, too lazy to type!
...but for the record or because of the records that share my accomodation with me (but somehow avoid paying rent) I'll give you a brief idea of the type of sounds that influenced my formative years-
Upto 10 years old (parent's);
Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, Bob & the Wailers, Rod Stewart, Abba, Queen, Elo, Eagles, 10CC...
Secondary School;
Madness, Specials, Everything on the Two-Tone label with a large splash of SKA. This gradually gave way to Electro and early Hip-Hop as I got in to the Breakdance culture of the early 80s (Beat Street, Afrika Bambata, Pacman, Rockit, UTFO, LL Cool J, Run DMC, The poxy Roxanne saga that saw everbody from Roxanne's granny to her dog releasing a rap over the same rhythm, seemed never ending and repetetive at the time, but now the reggae world does that as standard practice, one rhythm - a multitude of versions.)
Teenage years;
S.O.U.L, S.O.U.L, S.O.U.L, S.O.U.L, S.O.U.L, S.O.U.L, S.O.U.L, S.O.U.L, or as we use to say back in the day.... the Sound Of Underground London!
Vandross, FreddieJackson, Olympic Runners, BB&Q, Change, SOS, Loose Ends, Love Unlimited, The Jones Girls, Mary J, George Benson, CherylLynn, Zapp Band, shit i could go on for ever.....
Lets just use keywords to paint a picture... A thincrust base of hip hop, with a tasty coat of Rare Groove sauce, topped with heaps of 70s & 80s Soul, Funk & Reggae, finally garnished with a sprinkling of Acid House (Lets get mentalllllll.....)
Until Now...
Everything with a great pulse or any song where i can appreciate the artistic effort involved in its creation, whether it just be great lyrics, subject matter, harmonics, a catchy bassline, a move-me drum beat, you get the picture...
Ah bollox, as I said at the beginning "Too many to mention, too lazy to type!"
