The CommandmentZ

Biography:
Our experience as The CommandmentZ begins in summer 2005, while recording 11 EPs in Tromba di Eustakio, the recording studio of Naif. Our inventions come out of long improvisation sessions, when the rhythm imposed by one or the chords attempted by the other finally suggest the development that will lead to material for a new composition. We get inspiration in the experimental suites of Funk bands of the 70s or in extraordinary models like the electric Miles Davis of those same years or like Prince. Its out of these supreme patterns that weve drawn a concept of Funk absorbing all possible musical languages. Our first fully instrumental concept album "Have A Pleasant Trip" was based on some sort of trip among capital cities. Those tracks should not be taken as mere musical postcards, but rather as the investigation of styles and atmospheres. "Bits Of Brain", the new album recorded in summer 2006, explores imaginary mental surroundings. Its 13 tracks, structured like rhapsodies, penetrate always different anatomical landscapes: there is still a lot of Funk, but unclassifiable experimentation too, visionary moments, expanded dreamlike sequences. Hey, but, wait a minute! You wont take it all too seriously: any note may hide a parodistic joke, or ironical exasperation. Thats the reason why weve got such a sarcastically solemn name as The CommandmentZ. In the new album “HumourZ”, inspired by an imaginary new theory of temperaments, the pieces pursue unforeseeable moods and often change suddenly atmosphere, nevertheless the whole work sounds compact and coherent. To blend it all, like always, pulsates a granitic funk, that sometimes becomes irregular and eccentric, and that is enriched by harmonies that often explore sonorous sceneries beyond the tonality.
