The finest things on Earth, from diamonds to truth to pleasure, are hidden in the deepest darkest places. To keep up with the hastening search for beauty that occupies the postmodern human animal, one must seek these places out.
For a decade, that search has led the troubled genius caste of Portland to a wet unspoiled alley at SE 3rd and Stark, where more legends have unfolded than any other city block outside the Entertainment District. Like many such folkloric crossroads, this one has been known by many names. Meow Meow, Loveland, B Complex, The City Sign Building – a rich history of undocumented wonders recorded in the memory of aged bricks and immortal puddles. Do you remember when half the city looked like this, and felt like this too, before they tore it down? A return to the source environment of our Culture.
Rotture is a new name for the room at the Delta of Stark Street, where the East Side grows up out of the river amidst the ghosts of industry. Helmed and operated by a loose association of veteran prospectors, we continue to work the beauty mine while our peers join the Gold Rush.
We’re recruiting nightly with the help of our associates from the global underground, a thousand rooms like ours connected across the continents by the invisible pathways of goodwill we laid down when we were young. A riot of noise, queercore, metal, folk, antique, experimental, art-pop, and whatever digs its way to the surface without leaving its guts behind.
