The Grip
Grab This Thing
The GRIP is a funky-soul band from Memphis, TN that is single-handedly bringing the boogaloo sound back to the streets. Although Boogaloo may have had a Northern pedigree, it was honed and refined by Booker T. and the MG's, the Mar-Keys, and Willie Mitchell's Quintet from right here in Memphis. And that's where the GRIP is stepping in to re-introduce the South to the deep grooves that were the soundtrack of the 1960's and '70's!! Boogaloo is music that dares you not to be moved!!! The GRIP digs deep in the soil and turns out the true "cash crop" of the Mid-South - BOOGIE!!!! The groove is deep and the funk is thick!

Amy LaVere
Anchors and Anvils

I want to pretend it’s kind of this Classic Country/Gypsy/Jazz thing,” says Amy LaVere of her new Archer Records album, Anchors & Anvils. “I like so many different kinds of music, and I want to be all of them at different moments of the day. But I’d love to think that it’s kind of a Big Pop record.” The disc, produced by the legendary Jim Dickinson, is bigger than even that: Anchors & Anvils delivers ten smart and sexy tales of spooky love, twangy ache, sultry torch and gutsy blues that is totally unpredictable and relentlessly daring, the sound of an uncommon artist unafraid to be exactly who she is. It may also be, quite simply, the sound of Amy LaVere’s Big Breakthrough.

Lily Afshar
Hemispheres (2006) New Release
Hemispheres is Lily Afshar's fourth and most ambitious recording to date. In her search for new music, Lily discovered a wonderful array of composers, some of whom have written compositions especially for her. The result is Hemispheres, an intriguing collection of pieces performed by Afshar and written or arranged by international composers including Reza Vali, Ricardo Moyano, Gerard Drozd, Carlo Domeniconi, John Schneider, Leo Brouwer, Garry Eister and Morteza Neydavood. Lily Afshars Hemispheres presents a truly original sound (including the incorporation of quarter tones) that promises to be a significant addition to the contemporary classical guitar repertory.

This World Is Not My Home
This World Is Not My Home, Amy LaVeres debut CD, was a year in the making and is among most asked about releases. Great songs and a great band: Jimbo Mathus, Paul Taylor, Jim Dickinson, Tommy Burroughs, Tony Thomas, Jason Freeman, Forrest Parker, Paul Buchignani and, of course, Amy LaVere on the upright bass.

Gamble Brothers Band
Continuator (new release)
The world the Gamble Brothers Band articulates on this intriguing recording the working mans anthem Overboard, about the ongoing act of trying to keep ones head above water, as well as songs like Hold Out Til Monday, Back at School, Hearts Not in It and Shopping Cart will be readily familiar to most listeners, because its the world we live in today. These themes yanked from everyday life in contemporary America interact wondrously with the gritty grooves and smoky feel they've carried forward from the 60s and 70s R&B records on which they've based their sound.
