About Me

You have been marked on my profile map! Click to zoom-in.I started training in martial arts in 1979 and have trained daily since. I've gained insight into many styles or systems of martial arts. As a result, I have developed an independent system based upon principles of physics in the areas of time and distance. Distance is 3-dimensional and accounts for how I apporach using various ranges to introduce techniques. Time is the 4th dimension and is applied to the simple natural laws of movement to cover the distance between you and the target, or for you to come under attack from an agressor. To achieve movement requires time. It also requires energy which I don't worry too much about. If space is truly the final frontier, then we are limited to explore that frontier as we do not have a transportation venue that will allow us to cover the vast distances in an appropriate duration of time. In martial arts, our venue for travel is our body and we use our brainpower to issue instructions for the body to move in our immidiate space. The body will do as we instruct it to do. My system of martial arts is all about coordinating these instructions given by the brain which travel along neural networks and order muscles to move. Hopefully this movement will be in an efficient manner so as to achive speed and power as required to achieve successful outcomes. In this respect, I think the focus is the striving to bring the mind and body together in such a way as a thought becomes an action and the action is translated perfectly in accordance with the thought. The mind and body achieve harmony and can behave as one in spite of them being seperate physical entities. But what is a more vital ingrediant is the inclusion of the spirit in this process so the unity is truly of the mind, body and spirit. Getting back to the 4th dimension of time, only the spirit can transcend time or operate both now, present and past. This is one of the best kept secrets of all martial arts. Yet it is the most obvious to anyone. How else would I know that you are about to throw a kick to my right side before you have the slightest muscle twitch? Because I just simply know, and through faith in that knowledge, I can respond appropriately. So the real key is to have FAITH.

My Interests

I have many. I'm a waterski FANATIC! I love swimming, tennis matches, chess and reading great works. I also enjoy hiking, biking, playing video games and hitting local casinos. Dining with new friends is always a welcomed adventure.

I'd like to meet:

I enjoy meeting folks from all walks of life. I especially am drawn to easy going loving and compassionate folks who really care about everything they do. I'm not into being mean or disrespectful of any other human being. Being hard and tempered is one thing, but being abusive is counter to achieving true spiritual growth.

Music:

It was a great summer for music and I love all types. I'm very eclectic and the 70's/80's stuff will always be special in my heart. Long live KC & the Sunshine Band.

Movies:

Sci-Fi are the best. I've seen countless action adventures and they can be fun. House of Flying Daggers is a good example of a compelling movie to me.

Television:

Laughing at the Wind is an awesome series. Sad as it may be, I rock on College Football and Basketball. The Weather Channel is the best single channel on TV, but it was better when it had the awesome smooth music back in the 80's and little advertising.

Books:

The Bible is a good place to start. Other great books include writings on Taoism, Budhism, Metaphysics and Greek philosphy. One book that made a difference on how I see things: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Heroes:

Many mentors: at the risk of ommisions: I can't name them all here because you probably haven't heard of any of them. But each is a true hero in my life. Each cared enough to share positives with me. I'll have to name them later in a blog.

Fighting without fighting

I recall a crazy movie scene where Bruce Lee suckers another fighter into a boat to teach him the art of fighting without fighting.  Then Bruce unties the boat and sails away leaving the guy ...

Waterskiing

I finally got to ski again on Lake Meade this past Sunday.  It was a bit breezy, but we found an area somewhat protected by the rock cliffs jutting up from the lake.  This was outside the tr...

Going the Distance

I've spent a lot of time studying martial arts, but today I learned something new through a friend's poster of Bruce Lee.  The quote read," Knowing is not enough, we must apply.  Willin...

No Water skiing this weekend

Another weekend passed with no waterskiing.  I miss skiing with the River Rats back in VA.  I did get some light martial arts training in.  I worked mostly endurance and some agility dr...

Martial Arts

I saw Tony Jaa's The Protector.  This is an awesome martial arts flick.  I'm very impressed at the way Tony does his own stunts without tricks or props.  He is charismatic - a lot like ...
