Florence Ballard

Honey, we is terrific!!

About Me

Flo is a former member of the Supremes. She formed the group bac in 1958, originally called the Primettes. The group eventually went to Motown, and Flo renamed them "the Supremes." In their early years, the three girls in the group (Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, & Diane Ross) shared leads. Flo had a very powerful, souful voice. Mary had a softer, calmer voice, and Diane had a nasaly teeny-bopper voice. But, as Diana's relationship intensified with Motowns' owner Berry Gordy, Diana became lead singer of the group, and Mary and Flo were pushed to the side, literally. On stage, Diane usually had her own microphone on one side, while Flo and Mary had share a microphone on the other side. Flo ended up leaving her group in 1967 due to internal conflicts in the group. Flo went on to a solo career with ABC records. Although she was a former Supreme, Flo wasnt allowed to market herself as a former Supreme. Therefore, Flo had trouble coming out and promoting herself as a new singer. Her records were flops (even tho personally i think they're great), and an album was never released until just a few years ago. As time progressed, so did Flo's problems. She was in debt, and the bank reposessed her home and car. Flo, former diva, former Supreme, was now living on food stamps. Then, after a slip and fall accident, Flo made some money, and she was back on her feet. She bought a newer small home, and was doing small gigs around town. Things were starting to look up for her. Then,on 22 February 1976, she quietly passed away at the age of 31.Though she departed this life before she could renew her career, Florence continues to live through the wonderful legacy of the Supremes.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.1
