Scoring music for Film is not a thing for musicians. Since my schooldays back at the Berklee College of Music, when my classmates and I were butting heads in the relentless pursue of hipness, I realized that. My real lessons though, were taking place in the other side of town, every sunday at the Mercy and Grace Ministries Baptist Church, in Dorchester, a poor suburb of Boston. I played the Hammond organ there. But that electric wonder didn’t play chords, melody or rhythm, but despair, pain, relieve and salvation. Directly into the guts. It was not about accompanying the sermon, but being it. Sometimes predicting the miracles, sometimes reacting to the horrors, but mainly being as one with the preacher.
