The mission of RightRides For Women's Safety, Inc. is to build safer communities by eliminating harassment and sexual assault. We accomplish this by community organizing to offer direct service programs, plus fostering greater safety awareness and individual empowerment in our related educational programs.
In our RightRides program, we offer women, transgender (both m and f identified) and gender queer individuals a free, late-night ride home to insure their safe commute to or through high-risk areas. Email us at [email protected] if you can help out as a driver, navigator or dispatcher. RightRides can expand to additional nights and areas with more volunteers!
In our Safe Walk program we offer walking escorts for any one who doesn't want to walk alone. We're seeking volunteers owning bikes to make Safe Walk happen in 2008! Email [email protected] if you can help out.
Our educational programs include Neighborhood Safety Meetings featuring an informational panel of local leaders in crime prevention.
The RightRides program currently is offering pick up and drop offs in these neighborhoods. Because there is a limited number of volunteers and resources, the ride request must begin and end in these areas:
BRONX: Hunts Point, Mott Haven, Melrose, Port Morris, The Hub
BROOKLYN: Bedford-Stuyvesant, Boreum Hill, Bushwick, Crown Heights, Carroll Gardens, Downtown Brooklyn areas, Fort Greene, Gowanus Canal, Greenpoint, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Red Hook, Sunset Park, Williamsburg, Windsor Terrace
MANHATTAN: All of Harlem (from 96th on the east side and 110th on the west side, up to 145th St) PLUS all downtown areas located 23rd Street and south
QUEENS: Astoria, Long Island City, Ridgewood
We can expand to other areas and nights with increased volunteer interest!
