Timmy! is an alternative, entertaining
and fun-orientated band that believes that music should be dynamic and
natural, not stagnant and processed.
Consisting of working musicians from
different areas of the entertainment industry, the individual members
of Timmy! first met when award-winning songwriter/keyboardist Jim
Lim introduced lead singer Ngak to prominent producer/guitarist
Eric Ng and bass player Alan Zahringer
in late 2004.
This group of musicians quickly became
friends and when the invitation arrived for Ngak to perform at the inaugural
Mosaic Music Festival held at the Esplanade in March 2005, it was
only natural for him to rope in his buddies. Having enlisted the help
of up-and-coming jazz drummer Wen Ming Soh, Timmy! turned in a stellar
performance at Mosaic and a number of offers to perform at popular night
spots and other events promptly arrived.
Ngak, who had been a solo performer till that point in time - wooing audiences with his smooth and full-toned voice - began playing acoustic gigs with Eric at Acid Bar and Alan at Wala Wala. These three musicians also performed as a trio at China One and Eric, who is one of the most influential songwriters and producers in the Chinese pop music industry, invited the famous singer Emil Chau to watch them at this venue.
Emil, who had previously worked with
Eric and Jim, was so impressed by the stripped down yet sincere and
lively approach of Timmy! that he invited the entire band to Taiwan
to record a number of tracks in late 2005.
Once back in Singapore, the popularity
of the band had grown to such an extent that there was an immediate
need for a full band set-up and hence a permanent drummer. In their
work within the Chinese music industry, the band had enlisted the steady
drumming talents of Brandon Khoo, a renowned pop/rock and heavy
metal drummer. He in turn recommended fellow drummer Syed Hyder
for their regular club and bar performances.
As a 4 piece band Timmy! perform every
Wednesday at Wala Wala and every Friday at outdoor music bistro Timbre,
where their determination to make music while having fun and not to
take themselves too seriously, have kept customers raving and coming
back for more. Timmy! play a mix of popular English radio as well as
alternative rock covers and just about anything that sounds good with
the occasional Chinese ballad thrown in to warm the hearts of the ladies.

Right Here, Right
Now
In August 2006, Timmy! travelled to Taipei
to record eight songs with super star Emil Chau for his upcoming Mandarin
album. The recording work included modernizing some of the older-sounding
tracks and further collaborations in the near future seem to be on the
cards.
As a result of popular demand and requests
for their originals, Timmy! is currently preparing to hit the studio
in order to release an independent record.
