Making waves in the English and Chinese Pop/Rock Scene

Ngak : Vocals/Guitar

HYR : Guitars

Jim : Keyboards/Vocals

Alan Z : Bass

Syed/Brandon : Drums

Timmy! is an alternative, entertaining and fun-orientated band that believes that music should be dynamic and natural, not stagnant and processed.

Consisting of working musicians from different areas of the entertainment industry, the individual members of Timmy! first met when award-winning songwriter/keyboardist Jim Lim introduced lead singer Ngak to prominent producer/guitarist Eric Ng and bass player Alan Zahringer in late 2004.

This group of musicians quickly became friends and when the invitation arrived for Ngak to perform at the inaugural Mosaic Music Festival held at the Esplanade in March 2005, it was only natural for him to rope in his buddies. Having enlisted the help of up-and-coming jazz drummer Wen Ming Soh, Timmy! turned in a stellar performance at Mosaic and a number of offers to perform at popular night spots and other events promptly arrived.

Ngak, who had been a solo performer till that point in time - wooing audiences with his smooth and full-toned voice - began playing acoustic gigs with Eric at Acid Bar and Alan at Wala Wala. These three musicians also performed as a trio at China One and Eric, who is one of the most influential songwriters and producers in the Chinese pop music industry, invited the famous singer Emil Chau to watch them at this venue.

Emil, who had previously worked with Eric and Jim, was so impressed by the stripped down yet sincere and lively approach of Timmy! that he invited the entire band to Taiwan to record a number of tracks in late 2005.

Once back in Singapore, the popularity of the band had grown to such an extent that there was an immediate need for a full band set-up and hence a permanent drummer. In their work within the Chinese music industry, the band had enlisted the steady drumming talents of Brandon Khoo, a renowned pop/rock and heavy metal drummer. He in turn recommended fellow drummer Syed Hyder for their regular club and bar performances.

As a 4 piece band Timmy! perform every Wednesday at Wala Wala and every Friday at outdoor music bistro Timbre, where their determination to make music while having fun and not to take themselves too seriously, have kept customers raving and coming back for more. Timmy! play a mix of popular English radio as well as alternative rock covers and just about anything that sounds good with the occasional Chinese ballad thrown in to warm the hearts of the ladies. ; )

Right Here, Right Now

In August 2006, Timmy! travelled to Taipei to record eight songs with super star Emil Chau for his upcoming Mandarin album. The recording work included modernizing some of the older-sounding tracks and further collaborations in the near future seem to be on the cards.

As a result of popular demand and requests for their originals, Timmy! is currently preparing to hit the studio in order to release an independent record.

The UNusual suspects

Ngak Ng - Lead Singer / Rhythm Guitar

Ngak has been attracting crowds with his full-toned voice and uncanny ability to cover songs in his own style, while staying true to the originals for over three years.

He is also a budding songwriter and his songs have been performed by Alan Kuo and Emil Chau.

He is an experienced performer at music festivals and has performed at numerous venues including Balaclava, Wala Wala, Acid Bar, Rouge, Timbre, Hard Rock Café, San Liu Bar, English Rose Café, China One and Harrys. In 2004, Ngak was listed as one of Singapores 50 Most Gorgeous People by Female magazine.

Eric Ng / HYR -Lead Guitar

Eric (Huang Yun Ren) has worked with some of the biggest names, top producers, brightest stars and major music labels in Chinese Pop since 1999.

He is a highly sought-after producer/songwriter/arranger for many A-list singers including A*Mei, Stefanie Sun and Fish Leong and is also responsible for helping to establish the careers of artists such as Ho Yeow Sun and Jaycee Chan.

His impressive body of work includes some of the following songs:

    Ren Zhi (Hostage) - A*Mei
Zhi Fei Ji (Paper Plane) - Sandy Lam
Wu Di Dong (Deep) - Tanya Chua
Wei Wo Hao (For your own good) - Fish Leong Jing Ru
Bu Neng He Ni Yi Qi (Can't be with u) - Stefanie Sun
Zui Dong Ting (Most Moving Listening?) - Jaycee Chan
Hao Xiang Ku (feel like crying) - Emil Chau
Yi Xia Xia - Tong En
Li Liang (Strength) - Luo Zhi Xiang
Yi Juan Yi Wa (One Brick One Time) - charity song for Habitat for Humanity - by various artistes

Named as one of the top 38 achievers in Singapore under the age of 38 by The Straits Times, Eric is often invited to perform as a guest artist at the concerts of stars such as Emil Chau, Sandy Lam, Tanya Chua and A*Mei. He most recently performed as a guest musician at a successful Sun Ho 'comeback' concert in Taiwan.

In 2004, his hit song 'Deep', which he wrote for Tanya Chua, clinched the best melody in the Overseas Songwriter category in the Pepsi Charts Awards in China, a prestigious annual awards show. He was also named Best Young Songwriter category at the 2004 Compass Songwriters Awards.

Eric is also the director of Funkie Monkies Productions, which houses established local singers/songwriters and is currently grooming several emerging talents.

A true music lover, Eric is eager to contribute to the local English scene by constantly looking out for talented bands to promote such as The Suns and West Grand Boulevard, two highly respected local English rock bands.

Alan Zahringer -Bass

The comic relief of the band, Alan (by far the most handsome member) has played with various bands and has had the honour of opening for internationally acclaimed rock band, Hoobastank, on the Singapore leg of their Reason tour in 2004.

Quick-witted and disarming, Alan is known for his self-depreciating jokes that usually receives mixed reactions, but always manages to endear the band to the crowd.

Of European and Peranakan parentage, he also knows a ton of useless trivial facts and is a freelance writer for various periodicals and trade publications. An experienced music performer, he has been on stage at many of the same venues as Ngak as well as some which should better remain unmentioned for the sake of the bands reputation.

Jim Lim -Keyboards and Vocals

Like Eric, Jim is one of the busiest people in Chinese pop. Previously a well-known artiste with pop sensation, Dreamz FM, Jim has been honing his song-crafting and arranging skills for over a decade and has worked with the biggest names in the industry, contributing his songs and lending his voice to numerous stars and hit songs. He also is regularly asked to pen tunes for television serials anddocumentaries.

A first class vocalist, Jim is often relied upon to hit the high notes and nail the harmonies in the studio as well as on stage, like his most recent performance in early August, where he sang backing vocals for Wang Lee Hom in front of 50 000 people in Beijing.

The winner of many awards, Jim was most recently presented with the Best Songwriter Award in the Chinese Pop category at the 2006 Compass Songwriters Awards.

Brandon Khoo -Drums and Bad Jokes

Widely recognized as a drummer extraordinaire, Brandon is arguably one of his generations most gifted drummers in Asia and is considered to be the best heavy metal drummer in Singapore. His background in heavy metal music has allowed Brandon to remember complex arrangements, which has translated into him earning a reputation as a top-notch pop and rock drummer.

He has performed at several festivals and concerts and is most active with his cover band, The UnXpected, who perform regularly at Wala Wala, Balaclava and Muddy Murphys.

He has worked with several recording artistes including, Richie Ren, Leon Lai and Emil Chau.

Brandon's drumming skills are only surpassed by his ability to tell unbelievably corny jokes and his popularity with the ladies. Many of whom voted him the 8 th Most Eligible Bachelor 2006 in Singapore's Edition of Cleo magazine.

Syed Hyder -Drums

The baby of the band, Syed performs with Timmy! at most of their local outdoor and bar gigs. A student of Brandon's, Syed has great musicality and at only 21 years of age, is one of the top young drummers in Singapore.

He is well-versed in several music genres and is currently working hard to master them. Syed is active in several bands and is regularly asked to stand in with note-worthy cover bands such as EIC and UBlues band.
