About Me
A brand spanking new slab of metal, call it melodic death, or prog death, or melodic prog death, or whatever you like. In a world full of genre specific bands it's a bit more interesting for me to mix things up and make things a bit more interesting. Get down into the pure music and not the brutallity or grimness or whatever other buzz word you may find applicable! Having said that, this will all be part of one work, a concept album, much already recorded (as far as demo material is concerned anyway, all the meat and potatoes instrumental stuff is tracked) but with much left to do. While stylistically sporadic, it is all connected musically. And the dots will also be connected lyrically as they are slowly heading towards completion (I'm more than halfway now!!!). It's been a long time ambition for me to make a concept album, and it is proving to be quite the task!
Aside from simply being a writing/recording project, I'm also looking to make 'Born From The Ashes' into a viable working live band. I have recruited the services of the irrepressible MOUSEY on guitars! If you're from Brisbane, and you're into metal, you already know him!!! I also have the amazing short-haired Leo Campbell on bass, tho he cut his hair, he's still a mad bass player, and finally we have Alix Bandiera on drums, she's tight and awesome, tho she does hit like a girl! (:P).
And now a little bit of info about myself - My name is Ian Ahles, I have been playing guitar for about 13 years now, I've studied composition at the Box Hill institute of Tafe, as well as playing in several theatre productions and a classical/jazz acoustic quartet by the name of 'Hot Air and Strings.' The bulk of my focus for the last 6 years however, has been the metal band Praetorian, culminating in their most recent release 'Crushing Torment.' In May 2006 I left Praetorian and my home city of Melbourne for many reasons, including some that may actually have made sense! Anyway, Brissy rocks, and I love it, it's almost a shame that BORN FROM THE ASHES will Destroy all in it's path!
