2004 marked the inception of Garthum, a metal band with a twist. Inauspicious beginnings found Sahra and Jess paving the way for what would go on to become an intense – nay, dangerously brutal – five piece band. The fact that their venue of choice at the time was whatever garage/shed/living room happened to be handy did not dampen their spirit.
Skip forward to 2007, look back on the past, and the roots of many drunken stories emerge. James (drums; ex Blackened, Macalypse) called it quits, only to be quickly replaced by Dan (ex Nemesiah) who has now departed. Simon appeared and disappeared, and no one can quite recall exactly how long he was a fixture in the band. The one keyboardist who tried out was promptly rejected, and ran crying to his mummy… and a spate of bad luck saw nothing but fuckwits auditioning for the vacant role of vocalist for an abysmally long time.
Fortune struck with the arrival of Chris, who promptly set about putting a voice and theme to the Garthum machine. The arrival of DJ Adz Misfit not too long afterwards lent a feeling of completeness to the whole.
Garthum has now been steadily working its collective arse off to bring a tight, polished metal show to the unsuspecting masses. Only a fool would try to label the band; to this day, even the members themselves can’t quite figure out if what they play is black, death, thrash or nu metal, and they’ve given up trying. It matters not. Garthum is here, and it is here to stay.
Let the chaos begin.
