Sounds Like: Formed in 1978, in Indianapolis, Latex Novelties came as a shock to some and a welcome relief to others. For the music fans hungering for more than radio rock and over-produced record company darlings, Latex Novelties provided the boot to kick in the teeth of the local music scene. The Novelties could, and did, bring the underground sound from New York and the U.K. to Indianapolis for the very first time. They immediately became the “must see†band for every person seeking an escape from the endless string of cover bands that ruled the stagnant Indiana music scene.Their attraction to bands such as the Ramones, Vibrators, Dead Boys, and the Sex Pistols provided the groundwork for the Novelties to create some of the most original songs ever produced by an Indy band. Glam greats David Bowie and the New York Dolls had a strong influence on the live performances that were both uncompromising and outrageous to the extreme. Indianapolis had never seen their like before. Latex Novelties opened a door for a vibrant and active punk scene where none ever thought it was possible.
