About Me

I'm Kimberly J. Smith, author of "Sydney Wakefield: Into the Faraway." If you like King Arthur, fantasy, and the magic of reading, check it out. Here's a bit about it:

Sometimes, one story must end for another to begin.

What if, before finishing the final book of her popular children's book series, the author were to mysteriously die? This is what happened to Fern Huddleston, author of the "Sydney Wakefield" books. The series about a girl who travels to Avalon to rescue King Arthur from an evil Morgan le Fay is Henderson Green's favorite. When Fern dies, Henderson is devastated. But when Fern Huddleston’s ghost appears to him, asking for help, Henderson learns he is the only one who can help her finish the final book and get it published.

Why is this so important? Because somehow the books are coming true, and the real Sydney is trapped in Avalon with King Arthur. With Henderson’s help, Fern can finish the story and write Sydney and King Arthur out of Morgan's dark realm once and for all. Henderson soon finds himself playing a role in the story where the lines between what is real and what is fiction are blurred, where his favorite literary characters actually exist, and where the fate of the once and future King hangs in the balance.

My Interests

Books, books and more books! I tend to have a few going at once...
WHAT I'M READING:

On Deck:

What I'm listening to:
Check out Cool Kids Book Reviews here

I'd like to meet:

Kids and adults who love to read! Other children's authors, people in the publishing business.

Music:

I like everything from classical to metal, although country really isn't high on my list of choices. I like to write with music, but it can't have words, so I usually listen to Jonathan Still.... The Awakening or Under the Bodhi Tree. His music is just so soothing, and I'm not just saying that because he's my brother. I also like Muse a lot.

Movies:

Too many favs to even list. Genres.... LOTR, Harry Potter, I like action movies and dramas, especially the historical ones. I like comedies too... not so much into the horror movies lately.
MOVIES I'VE SEEN RECENTLY:
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull -- don't get me started, this is worth an entire rant unto itself. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Michael Clayton -- eh. I think I was expecting too much with the Oscar nods and all.
Jumper -- very fun. That Hayden Christiansen is adorable.

Television:

I don't watch many TV shows, but I do like LOST. What I watch with my kids: iCarly, Fairly Odd Parents (my favorite), Sponge Bob (sigh), and Suite Life of Zack and Cody. The boys like Naked Brothers Band, too.

Books:

Harry Potter, Gregor the Overlander, Artemis Fowl, The Wizard/Warrior Heir, Gideon the Cutpurse (aka The Time Travelers and The Time Thief), Leven Thumps series, Fablehaven series, The Emma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray, Spiderwick Chronicles, Septimus Heap, The Alchemyst, The Percy Jackson series.... just to name a few. Some favorites from my childhood (and yes, I'm dating myself horribly here): anything by Beverly Cleary, One of a Kind Family, Betsy-Tacy and Tibb, Little Women, A Wrinkle in Time, From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, the "Little House" books, Mandy (by Julie Andrews), Harriet the Spy, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and the first book that ever made me cry: Where the Red Fern Grows. (Okay, I cried when Beth died, but that doesn't count because you can't be human and not cry when Beth dies...)

Heroes:

My husband and my two kids whom I adore. And my sister Molly -- she's a survivor of the first kind.
