About Me

I was born and raised in the UK. After completing a PhD in English Literature (at the University of Sheffield), I upped sticks and moved to New York to be with my husband, a professor at NYU. These days, while my four year old son sleeps, I write fiction. My debut novel "The Professors' Wives' Club" is being published by New American Library/Penguin and will be released in September ('08). My second novel just sold and will come out in Summer ('09)Visit my website at www.joannerendell.com

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Bridget Jones (if she really existed), Jane Austen and Mary Shelley (if they were alive), Michelle Obama (if she weren't so busy), Lisa Simpson (if she were real), Queen Latifah (if she didn't mind that I know very little about her music, but love her movies), Judith Butler (so long as she doesn't quiz me too hard on how I used her feminist theories in my "written-long-ago" dissertation), Sarah Seltzer (who just wrote a fantastic piece in Bitch Magazine about the misogyny of The New York Times Book Review), Michel Foucualt and Martin Luther King (if they were alive too), Howard Zinn (if he agreed to teach my son US history), Billy Bragg (if he'd teach me to play guitar)Plus, I want to meet lots of lovely people on My Space who enjoy fiction and fun and blue skies...
