Growing Up Has Let Me Down

About Me

View my page on Glamnation
I was born in the depths of Essex on September 29th, 1966 and was raised in Cranham from the age of 5 (although Romford seems to be the nearest place most people have heard of!). I have a scary amount of siblings; 4 brothers and 2 sisters, all younger than me! Even more scary is the fact that we all got on pretty well, and still do! My first gig was The Ramones in February 1980. I had to be snuck in the back way by one of the bouncers who was a friend of the friend I was with, and it changed my life utterly! That night, they became the first 'rock stars' I'd ever met and they made an impression on me that will NEVER be forgotten. My signed copy of the 'Baby I Love You' single remains one of the most precious things I own. I spent the next 15 years hanging out with some of the coolest people and seeing some of the coolest bands ever on the London punk/sleaze/glam scene. I sang in a covers band for a while, although we split up in 1985 and were never a serious concern; just played at friend's parties and stuff. I finally got round to telling our story and putting it up as a blog recently, if anyone is curious. Might not be what you were expecting though, so be warned. There were lots of laughs, lots of tears, lots of good friends made and lost and I don't regret one second of it; not even the painful stuff. The glam/sleaze scene in London in the 80's was THE best time ever! And to prove that all the alcohol, rock n roll and partying didn't deplete my brain cells too badly, I even managed to get a degree in psychology along the way!In 1994 I met my husband and subsequently moved to Leeds in October 1995, where we still live. We have two cats (Thunders and Tyla), two budgies (Sid and Frankie), six rats (gobby younger lads Anubis and Osiris and the new babies Horus, Ra, Sutekh and Sobek (R.I.P Bagpuss, Squid and Newt). I can't be arsed with idiots and can be scathingly sarcastic when people start to annoy me. As a rule though I'm laid back and open minded. For various reasons, I have a very high wall built around me and very few people ever really manage to scale it. Those who do will be rewarded with a loyal and close friend.I'm still as passionate about my music now, as I was when I left that Ramones gig all those years ago. That's never going to change. I've written reviews and provided gig photos for various fanzines, spent hours handing out flyers in all weathers and even managed one of my husband's bands for a while. All bloody hard work, but worth it for the music!! I will relentlessly support local/unsigned bands that I see and like enough, but they're few and far between. I'm not easily impressed!! I enjoy taking live photos of bands and if I come to see your band and take photos, I'll usually stick them in an album and let you know so you can come and have a look. I don't mind if you want to use any of my photos, but I would like to be asked first and I do expect to be credited. Click on the banner below to check out my husband's current band The Kingcrows. They're a bit good!CHECK OUT MY POETRY MYSPACE PROFILE HERE;http://www.myspace.com/espritdelamour

My Interests

Music, gigs, clubbing, films, PVC and rubber, fetish art and photography, hanging out with friends, reading, writing poetry (none of which will appear here! LOL!), white wine and real ale, tattoos, pretty boys with smudged eyeliner, sleazy rock n roll, punk rock, Ancient Egypt, psychology, photography, cryptozoology, cooking, growing my own organic fruit and veg, paganism and neo - paganism. I've been a practising Solitary Witch since 2001. My favoured pantheon is that of Ancient Egypt. I have pets instead of kids; this is my little family:

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who might have been about on the London scene at the same time as me. It's a safe bet we would have been at one or two of the same gigs/clubs at some point. Other sleazy glam fans; sadly, we appear to be an endangered species. I'm happy to add bands I actually like, people I have stuff in common with and people I might already know from other places, but I'm not into randomly adding to my friends list just to boost the numbers. I don't add anyone who hasn't bothered to fill in thier profile. If you want to be added to my friends list, I want to know WHO I'm adding. If you're a band and you send me a friend request which I decline, it means that I've listened to what's on your profile page and it hasn't been to my taste. It doesn't mean it's crap; I've heard a lot of stuff that's great for the genre it's in, but that I'm not into personally. I ALWAYS have a listen to bands who send friend requests!!! So many of my heroes are gone and I'm so glad I got to meet some of them first...........It goes without saying that I intend to meet all my dear friends and biggest heroes again, one day.... To all my friends who've gone before me I have only this to say - I AM NOT WEAKER FOR HAVING LOST YOU; I AM STRONGER FOR HAVING KNOWN AND LOVED YOU.CURRENT MOON lunar phaseIMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL NEW FRIENDS; I've just had a clearout of my 'friend' list and deleted a number of people/bands for the following reasons...1) They continuously send dozens of bulletins begging for photo comments. If I see an interesting photo in your albums I may well leave a comment for you, and we all like to receive a comment now and again, but I will delete anyone who sends a ridiculous amount of bulletins begging for comments. Letting people know that you've put new photos up isn't the same thing, by the way.Ditto for bulletins about this or that cause. I support a number of causes, but I dislike extremism of any kind. If I log on to find a dozen bulletins and 10 of them are from the same cause, I view this as extremism and will delete the profile they originated from no matter how much I support thier cause;2) They're bands who never even bothered to thank me for listening to thier stuff or adding them. I make it very clear in my profile that I DO listen to bands who send friend requests, so if I have added your band it means I like them. I don't expect to get into your gigs for free, but I do expect a quick message to say thanks;3) They're people who haven't so much as said hello once I've accepted thier request. The reason I mention 'people I have stuff in common with' is so we might actually be able to have a chat (albeit online) about something we're both interested in. I don't care about age, sex, sexual orientation or anything else but I do ask that we have something in common so we might exchange a message or two somewhere down the line. Otherwise, what's the point of you sending a request and me adding you?I also do not add anyone who has thier profile set to private. I'm not going to add anyone who doesn't want me to know a bit about them before I hit the 'accept' button. If you're cool with all that, then feel free to send a request but I will look at your profile before I accept. If it's obvious that you haven't read a bloody word of my profile I will hit 'deny' without further ado!!!!!!!I personally recommend the following bands..........The SubzerosSlash VegasPhluid

Music:

Glam, punk, sleaze, trash, goth n rock n roll!!!!!!!!!! in no particular order (apart from the first two) because that would be an impossible undertaking!!!!!!!!!!!! The Ramones, Hanoi Rocks (80 - 85 only), Rene Berg, Adam and the Ants, Bow Wow Wow, Dogs D'amour, Lords Of The New Church, Dead Boys, Star Star, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Johnny Thunders, New York Dolls, The Dickies, The Damned, The Adicts, Fallen Angels, Backyard Babies, Hardcore Superstar, Sex Pistols, early David Bowie, T. Rex, The Sweet, Jeff Dahl, The Vibrators, Toy Dolls, Dirty Pretty Things, early 69 Eyes, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Pantera, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, The Everley Brothers, Ricky Nelson, Chuck Berry, Link Wray, Little Richard, Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, The Specials, Madness, Bad Manners, The Macc Lads, Manic Street Preachers, Placebo, Transvision Vamp, Blondie, Jayne County, Poison, Motley Crue, Vain, Motorhead, The Pogues, Prince, Smack, Wendy O'Williams, The Babysitters, Cherry Bombz, Demolition 23, Cheap and Nasty, Briard, Anti Nowhere League, The Who, Trash Brats, The Cramps, The Cure, Slade, LA Guns, The Wildhearts, Faster Pussycat, Anti Product, Murderdolls, Soho Roses, Tigertailz, The Throbs, Ballroom Zombies, Iggy Pop, Radio Birdman, Marilyn Manson, Phluid, Drugdealer Cheerleader, The Quireboys, Alice Cooper, Last Great Dreamers, Toilet Boys,The Crybabies, The Libertines, Queen, Tenpole Tudor, Morrissey, The Smiths, early Guns n Roses, Suede, Pulp, Bob Dylan, Carter USM, The Wonderstuff, lots of terrible 80's pop, lots of early ska and reggae, lots of unsigned bands, lots of 50's rock n roll

Movies:

I'm a huge fan of horror/splatter movies, especially the work of Lucio Fulci, George Romero and Dario Argento. Fave actors include Udo Kier, John Morghan, George Eastman and David Hess. I also love old classic horror from the 1930's onwards, and adore Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Vincent Price.Johnny Depp and Gary Oldman also rule. Truly stunning actors, both of them.I love the 'Carry On' films, because I was raised on that kind of silly comedy. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a very 'fnarr, fnarr' sense of humour.I also love musicals, my favourite being The Rocky Horror Picture Show.My cinematic taste is very much like my musical taste; I have a few favourite genres, but I'll give anything a watch and if I like it all well and good. I don't bother going to the cinema much for the simple reason that I fidget like a 3 year old when I have to sit still for any length of time. Since I don't mind waiting for things to come out on DVD, this isn't a problem.

Television:

A recent survey found 90% of TV to be tedious bollocks. Due to me agreeing with this I don't watch it much. When I do it's mostly documentries. Quite like a bit of Dr. Who (fave Dr. - Tom Baker) and South Park and I'll watch the odd film if it's something I like. Futurama and Family Guy have been known to make me snigger. Reality TV and soaps are banned here. There's no point asking me what I think about the latest happenings in the Big Brother house because I will neither know nor give a shit. Likewise with the latest 'drama' in Eastenders.

Books:

I'm a big fan of the following authors; Shaun Hutson, James Herbert, Stephen King, Terry Pratchett, Bill Bryson, Kate West, Fiona Horne, Anne Rice and more.

Heroes:

Razzle, Rene Berg, Spider (the man who taught me how to fall off a drum stool pissed without hurting myself (and how to play a bit of drums as well)), Ed Tudorpole, Marc Bolan, Ginger Wildheart, Adam Ant, Freddie Mercury, Ronnie Barker, John Cleese, Stephen Fry, Spike Milligan, Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth I, Henry VIII, Debbie Harry, Joey Ramone, my best friend JJ, my friend Amanda; one of the most amazing women I know, Taime Downe, Keith Moon, Johnny Thunders, Bettie Paige, Matsuimi Max, Dita von Teese, Tyla, Stiv Bators, Iggy Pop, Johnny Depp, Gary Oldman, Marilyn Monroe
