About Me

Beth Amin was born in São Paulo, Brazil. She always loved music (her mom uses to say that she first started singing - something like a "baby’s scatting" - even before speaking her first words…). She started classical piano lessons at the age of 7, but at the age of 15 she quit. She wanted to sing, badly. She sang at night clubs, bathrooms, friends' parties, high school’s festivals, etc. She used to sing all day long. MPB was what she liked most. At the University (she is also a Speech Pathologist) she joined a vocal group named Beijo. Beijo was a group from CORALUSP (University of São Paulo´s Choir). The group always made good popular music with outstanding vocal arrangements. Beijo was always very busy, gigging a lot around São Paulo and other cities. In 1992, they were nominated for the Sharp Music Award as best vocal group, with their album "Beijo". The group was fun to listen and fun to watch (every group member was very comfortable and happy on stage). In the nineties, Beth got a scholarship from Berklee College of Music and began her "love afair" with Jazz. While in Boston, she studied with Bob Stoloff, Luciana Souza, Hal Crook, Jerry Bergonzi (and lately, in NYC, with Jeanie Lovetri…)These people made a difference in her music. At that time she started writing her on music. She was playing with wonderful musicians. She decided to record a solo CD with her originals. Blue Morning was the result of this project. Back in Brazil she played with outstanding musicians such as Vinicius Dorin, Fernando Correa and Rogério Bottermaio. At the same time she joined a vocal group that was doing (and still does-the group recorded two CDs) Renascence music (she loves it!). Now, she teaches singing, works a lot and even having a hard time to get to do her own music (it is not easy to make a living as a musician in Brazil….), she is very happy. (She can write in Portuguese, but in English she kind of sucks...)

Nasci em Sampa. Sempre adorei música e sempre adorei cantar. Morar na Vila Madalena me ajudou.
