ILLINOIS' LARGEST TRAINING AND RESOURCE CENTER

About Me

Located just a few blocks west of DePaul University, Music Industry Workshop is the area's leading training and resource center for record producing, studio recording, digital music production, concert sound and lighting, music video production, DJ technology, and music business.

Since 1997, MIW has offered comprehensive training and resources for aspiring artists, producers, and other individuals who wish to pursue a career, business, or hobby in todays music industry.

Training programs and resources are available to the general public in the form of weekend workshops, boot camps, seminars, on-site solutions, industry events, and other activities.

Our award winning instructors include industry experts, successful business executives, and professors from both DePaul University and Columbia College.

Our state-of-the-art facilities include world-class recording studios, digital production suites, and large conference rooms. These facilities are used by DePaul University and Columbia College to teach their own music production and recording classes.

This unique combination of training and resources provides the perfect backdrop for one of the most unique and challenging learning experiences available anywhere.

MIW training programs range from basic introductory lessons
to full blown career development courses.

Subjects include:

Courses are designed for home studio and professional studio production. We cover all aspects of digital audio, making tracks, MIDI sequencing, sampling, mic'ing techniques, effects processing, recording, mixing, music theory, songwriting, and much more.

MIW offers training in all the leading software including PRO TOOLS, REASON, ABLETON LIVE, LOGIC, CUBASE, SONAR, and much more.

Everybody wants to be a DJ. We provide training in every aspect of being a DJ including turntable tricks, mixing techniques, CD decks, MP3 emulator software, how to promote a show, how to pursue a career, etc.

This program covers all the aspects of sound and lighting systems for concert and stage production. We actually teach the classes in a private 800 seat amphitheater. Students actually produce a different concert each night.

Perhaps the most important program we offer. We cover marketing and promotions, copyright and publishing, record labels and distribution, how to start your own business, and much more.
Todays music industry is extremely competitive. In order to be successful in music, it is imperative to have good business and production skills. Without these critical skills, opportunities are hard to come by. MIW is dedicated to empowering the local music community with these critical skills.

We realize that without these skills, most musicians, DJs, producers, and other industry personnel dont stand a chance in this industry. We also realize that college is not an option for everyone. MIW provides another option for those who need the training, but do not have the time, resources, or desire to attend college.

Our weekend and evening programs are designed to fit in well with youth and adult schedules, our small class sizes guarantee plenty of hands-on training, and our tuition prices are among the lowest of any professional training program in the country.
