BAND BIO
What started as a casual jam between 3 cousins in January 2006, no one imagined that four months later they would be performing as Runaway Slide at the Rendez-vous Montréalais 2006 de Musique Amateur! They received a standing ovation and a band was born.
Justin Saladino, the guitarist/vocalist, was born on October 26th 1994 in Montreal, has been playing since the age of 6 years old. Justin performed at the West Island Blues Festival of 2005 with his previous band at the age of 10. In August 2007, he was invited to play with Paul Deslauriers at the Victoriaville Guitar Explosion.
Adam Passalacqua, drummer, was born on July 3rd 1994 in Montreal, has been playing since the age of 2. Adam’s amazing ability stood out among the many musicians who auditioned for a spot in the Blues Camp 2nd edition held by the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
Matthew Passalacqua, bassist, was born August 30th 1994 in Montreal, he replaced his father, the original bassist of Runaway Slide. Matthew started playing the bass in the fall of 2006 and he already shows great skills.
Terry DiMonte, CHOM morning man, impressed with Justin’s outstanding guitar talent at such a young age invited the band to play for the crowd at CHOM’s McAuslan Brewery event in summer 2006. Terry and Ted interviewed Justin and Adam on the air and was followed by Justin playing a rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s Voodoo Chile.
Runaway Slide had twice the honour of being the opening band for Montreal’s “Queen of the Blues†Dawn Tyler Watson, performing with her group Dawn Tyler Blues Project. Both benefit events were held at Bourbon Street West, Pointe Claire, in February and May 2007.
Runaway Slide is the proud 2nd place winner of the 1st Prix Étoiles Galaxie de Radio-Canada contest held at the Tremblant International Blues Festival in July 2007. The band also had the privilege of performing at the closing Jam Session with blues artists the likes of J. S. Chouinard, Sam Harrison, Trevor Finlay, Rick L. Blues and many others…
Their remarkable performance at Mont Tremblant bought them an invitation to kick off the 5th Edition of the Lys Blues Gala held at Club Soda on September 16, 2007 where they also played their first original “28†and brought the house down!
In September 2007, Runaway Slide was asked to open the Lys Blues Gala Awards at Club Soda and brought down the house.
