About Me

BANDS/ARTISTS PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: PLEASE DO NOT ADD ME TO YOUR SITE - I WILL ASK YOU AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN SEEN OR HEARD ETC. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT SO AN 'UNSOLICITED' REQUEST WILL JUST BE IGNORED. Well it's taken me a little while to get this site going but I do work and I am studying and I am out whenever possible listening/watching/viewing. It is my intention to seek out bands I like and as much as I can (time and other essential activities permitting) promote those bands within the music fraternity. This might be no more than word of mouth promotion at the least or writing to record labels and promoters saying something like "Hey, you must have a listen to this band because I/we think they are good". A testimonial from an independant third party might just give a local band that first step up the ladder they need. Please note that I'm only going to support bands from Manchester therefore they must either be born and bred Mancunians or reside in Manchester. If you are from Leeds, Sheffield, London, Liverpool, Glasgow etc then don't bother with this site unless you are just having a look round. I've nothing against you or your home town it's just that I probably won't be able to do much for you and you will be better served by a website that caters for your area of which I do know there are some.I've never been exposed to pop - unless alternative music crosses over - never watched Top of the Pops or listened to Commercial Radio. I Enjoy the X Factor but for the crack only, but honestly if you are in a band that's pushing themselves in that direction or you just want to be famous and see your picture in Hello Magazine then don't bother with this site because I don't want to know and I'll probably delete you. There are certain genres of music I'm not into such as RAP, DEATH METAL, COUNTRY & WESTERN, RnB and MOST FORMS OF JAZZ unless their shear brilliance transcends the genre boundaries. Having been to the Cambridge Folk Festival this year I have developed a healthy respect for the musicianship of some of these artists. I even have a Fairport Convention or Sandy Denny record somewhere which I borrowed from the library but never returned.Wish me luck I'm doing it for you!My PC at home has been out of action recently and I've spent many an hour deleting things in the hope that I'll get it going again. But it had no effect. So i've resorted to borrowing a lap top from where I work and using it at the Copper Kettle. Also the Drip in Hilton Street.PS. I don't know if I'll have the site full of myspace friends - not decided on that yet.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: This is it, hun.
Band Members: Me myself and I - but I am very ably supported by two others. For these purposes we have decided to remain anonymous and there is some wisdom in this. From time to time we will be recruiting others to lend a hand.
Influences: From a music point of view I am influenced by what I have been exposed to over the years. My parents - who I consider have very good taste in music - my elder brothers and sisters have all influenced me as well but these days I find that I'm listening to music they are not aware of. My parents have always been into music and arts and wherever possible support the artist in whatever way they can. They still go to gigs to see local unsigned bands in and around the North West but mainly in the Manchester area. They also have a lot of friends who are artists/singer songwiters (curiously these are all American). My parents are very knowledgeable as far as the local music scene is concerned and I often pick their brains for information.Currently my other colleagues, who are helping me with this project, know an awful lot about music and their services are in demand elsewhere. Plus they have contacts within the music industry. I'm not sure if they actually have influences but they do have some current favourites both in and outside the Manchester geographic area.
Sounds Like: Manchester, UK, centre of the musical universe.
Record Label: Well maybe, in due course!
Type of Label: None

My Blog

Updates

I send a monthly newsletter off to a few of my contacts - usually record labels, a few A&R and published/online magazines. The format of the letter is pretty much the same - I simply send an updat...

How signed is signed?

A couple of bands I've been to see recently turned out to be signed when I thought they weren't. But they are not signed to EMI or 4AD or anyone like that but signed to small local labels who do ...
