About Me

Hi, I'm Rachael.I've always written, I write melodies to sing the things I write, I also write chords, they get nicely arranged sometimes. We press record, we shun auto-tune, you can probably tell.
Along with a couple of good friends, we've played a handful of gigs in the last year, wherever we were asked, from a greasy spoon in the Northern Quarter (my favourite), to the Birmingham NEC for the Clothes Show Live. This year however, we're going out all folk guns blazing, with myself giving it some guitar, vox, some mean flute, glock and other junk, Mike Kelly on the ole guitar and BVs (that's backing vocals apparently- a little insider secret there ;) ) and the mighty man giant James Adolpho on the beautiful double bass, which when bowed produces a sound much akin to the sensation a woman experiences when eating chocolate. Together, we shall be hitting every venue in the world.
Thanks for popping by, it's nice to see you, we'll hopefully be round your way this year :)
PRESS:
"The Joan Baez of Timperly"
My mate Robin, who's never heard me and probably never heard Joan Baez judging by that comparison
"Independent enough to impress fans of the quality adult singer-songwriter genre but polished enough to sell by the truckload."
manchestermusic.co.uk
"A major talent in waiting"
Cross Rhythms
Frank Sidebottom's asked me to have a singing cameo in his latest TV series with Little Frank, should be interesting...
BBC Manchester forecasting break-through artists for 2007:
"As for the up and comings keep an eye out for Rachael Kichenside– beautifully unique folk-jazz with a solid twist of pop."
BBC Manchester
"Rachael Kichenside's stage presence and vocal prowess are undeniable...she and her superb band had the audience enthralled."
Real Fresh TV
"With a voice matched only by her beauty and a grin a mile wide, shes an artist that grips an audience through the eyes and ears... By the time she closed her short set, full-stopping it with another dazzling smile, she'd got the whole audience in the palm of her hand, and they were happy to be there."
BBC Manchester
"Both fun and highbrow, its a satifying display that's lit by the organic mix of acoustic instruments and soulful vocal gestures."
manchestermusic.co.uk
" Rachael is causing quite a local stir. She has certainly blossomed onto the mancunian live scene."
FACT MAGAZINE
".. the sweet meander of Rachael's voice, caught as it is between a summers day and a smoky night, it somehow makes sense. Beautifully lazy, lazily beautiful whichever way you look at it, its a winner."

Steve Lamacq played the EP on RADIO 2. And said that is was "Another indication that Manchester is crawling with new talent"
He then got me in for an interview and made me his "introducing" artist of the week, putting me on the front page of his Radio 2 site and calling me "the gorgeous Rachael Kichenside." What an honour :)
The BBC in Manchester have already been playing the EP and have called it "gorgeous".

LIKE THE TIDES REVIEWS:
Here's the first review from the super ace cool High Voltage
HIGH VOLTAGE NEW NOISE – Rachael Kichenside (note it's not 'kitchenside!)
by Phill Daker
Have you ever known a secret so good that you've wanted to just shout it out loud from the rooftops? Rachael is that secret. Fresh from touring last year with the magnificent Windmill, Rachael is now back in Manchester making her own beautifully constructed folk. Limited edition single 'Long Time Later' was like hidden treasure; showcasing a voice so warm, so delicate that it melted even my bitter heart.
New EP 'Like The Tides' is a triumph (co-produced by the remarkable Stickboy) and I urge you to Myspace this girl quickly, if only to hear 'Something to Say' …which I promise, you will be playing over and over again. With her twinkling personality and heart rendering lyrics, Rachael Kichenside is an amazing new talent that deserves to be more than just another well kept secret…and I'll be shouting it from the rooftops, even if I do look like a loon!
High Voltage Online also said some nice stuff
"Rachael Kichenside doesn’t so much "pack" her marvellous talent as she spins it like silk – indelibly delicate but tangible enough to wrap yourself in for hours at a time"
High Voltage Online-Fran Donnelly
Manchestermusic.co.uk had some lovely things to say about it too
This devastatingly pretty clockwork acoustica allows Rachael's voice to fall like raindrops over a sparkling accompaniment... Rachael Kichenside weaves a special kind of magic, with a voice that is as pleasing as it is outstanding and when married to her captivating songs there’s really no escaping the magic of it all.
The Like the Tide EP was 100 tagged numbered CDs-with alternate artwork, all by myself. This CD sold out in less that 48 hours, but can be bought for just £3.95 for the five tracks on itunes if you click this weird button below :
