About Me

Welcome one and all. It's Oxjam time again peeps. If you're in a band that likes playing gigs, or the warm glow you can only get from being nice to charities, click the banner below to find out how you can do both in one go and help Oxfam in April 2008. Thanks."Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." - Groucho Marx."Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." - Albert Einstein."The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it." - George Bernard Shaw."Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Einstein again. Not just good with the Maths that lad."One of my favorite philosophical tenets is that people will agree with you only if they already agree with you. You do not change people's minds." - Frank Zappa."I am in politics because of the conflict between good and evil, and I believe that in the end good will triumph." - Margaret Thatcher. (Only when you're 6 feet under Maggie)."I've had a wonderful time, but this wasn't it." - Groucho Marx."You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time." - Abraham Lincoln."You can fool some of the people all the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on." (Genuine!) - George W. Bush."If you are going through hell, keep going." - Sir Winston Churchill."Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months." - Oscar Wilde.

Movies:

Withnail & I, American History X, Dog Day Afternoon, Room With a View, Goodfellas, Goodbye Lenin, Heat, Adaptation, Taxi Driver, City of God, The Motorcycle Diaries, Being John Malkovich, Die Fälscher, American Psycho, does anyone actually read these anyway? You're probably too busy preparing to post a poorly designed flyer for your unimaginitive rock night at some squalid little venue nearby aren't you? Well enough about my film tastes then. Suffice to say it's usually stuff without animated animals littering the screen, or cops causing too many explosions, with the obvious exception of John McClane.

Television:

To paraphrase the late, great Bill Hicks: Shut up Britain. Go back to sleep. Here’s Celebrity Love Island, here’s Wife Swap. Here’s 48 channels of it. Everything is fine. Your government has everything under control. Go back to sleep Britain. (I think our TV isn't up to much usually).

Books:

In no particular order because that music took too long: Hunter S. Thompson, Arthur Conan Doyle, John Simpson, Lester Bangs, Haruki Murakami, John Le Carre, Michael Palin, Tony Hawks, J.R.R. Tolkein, Armando Ianucci, Patrick Süskind, Roald Dahl, Arthur Miller, Joe Orton, Ernest Hemmingway, George Orwell, Nick Hornby, Mark Z. Danielewski, Paulo Coelho, Steven Fry, Bill Bryson. I’ve just realised there isn’t a single female author or playwright in this list. This is either because there are no decent female authors, or I don't read nearly as much as I should, or a combination of the two. Make your own minds up.

Heroes:

Just for one day.
