"Their 2006 album
Sun and Glacier (out on Paribus Records) is an intense flux of sounds and emotions: fuzzy streams of distorted guitars meet melodic and rather suggestive melodies and words." The Deli Magazine
"Of all of the discs floating around with bands that seem to be liberally ‘borrowing’ from their influences, Kinetic’s Sun and Glacier comes off as a disc that stands on its own merits outside of the ‘sounds like’ category. The rhythm section is polished, both the rhythm and lead guitar playing is ace, and the production is perfect for the band’s material – hazy, but balanced enough for each individual instrument to carry a strong amount of weight throughout the entire album. Recommended to the highest degree." Delusions of Adequacy

Depending on what you are after, choose an area, a more or less populous city, a more or less lively street. Build a house. Furnish it. Make the most of its decoration and surroundings. Choose the season and the time. Gather together the right people, the best records and drinks. Lighting and conversation must, of course, be appropriate, along with the weather and your memories. Underrated:
Kinetic fall into what many call "noisy pop". That genre, to me, is rock that is loud and fuzzy and takes on all different sounds all at one time. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just prefer music that I can sing along with. Luckily enough, Kinetic has managed to infuse both of those elements. Their new album, Sun & Glacier, is 10 songs that are both self-contained and memorable. The songs themselves, beautifully written and executed through lead singer Brendan's wail and screech. Each song brings you from point A to B without worrying about looking back. Unconventional and all together pleasing, Sun & Glacier was a nice surprise that gets better with time. (
Rachel is a fabulous person and true music devotee, and we thank her for her eloquent summation.)
Smother Magazine: Wow. This album is amazing. Kinetic match Keane and Radiohead's vocal harmonies, Sebadoh's superb guitar licks, and Superchunk's songwriting skills with daunting ability. Your hair will be blown back by the sometimes psychedelic but always 110% catchy guitars. You'll shiver as they hit you with A superb groove and magnificently well-formed, infectious melodies. Perhaps the best indie pop-rock outfit I'll hear all year. If you don't pick up this album, than check yourself into the nearest mental asylum you're freakin' nuts! (
No, we didn't pay them to say this, we swear)
The Village Voice: I'm happy to say they've really stepped up to the plate and hit one out of the ballpark (or rock club). The bands sound has evolved into a dreamy wash of well-layered guitar riffs and soft-tease vocals. (
We were very happy to receive these kind words from the hometown paper)
Time Out NY:
Kinetic is a trio that plays loping, jangly indie pop. Their debut four-song EP had enough parts for an album twice as long. On their new album, "Sun & Glacier," the band stretches out a bit. (
We're not really sure if this is positive or negative, but we've seen worse from these guys)
Jasper Coolidge:
Ladies and gentleman, I am proud to introduce you to Kinetic. Summery and shimmery like the best Pavement songs yet as fierce and jagged as Eric Bachman in Archers while tender on the inside like Evan Dando, Kinetic's Brendan has all the makings of a great rock and roll lead man - complete with a electrified stage presence that few Chapel Hill or Boston legends could have approached. This is pop with no pretense and no pain. They're songs filled with hope and beauty. (
Thank you, Jasper, for the wonderful words. We hope we can live up to them.)
Crashin In': Indie is still alive and kicking in NYC. This highly emotional/heartfelt combo supply us with some tunes that flavor in the guitar, bass, drums spectrum that bands like Sebadoh, Archers of Loaf, Superchunk, and Unrest provide. (
None of us own an album by any of these bands, but people like them, so we hope people like us too.)
