About Me

Where to start...Well I live in not so sunny Scotland where I am in the process of completing a degree in Events Management at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. My parents however were both born in Mauritius which is one of the most beautiful places in the world, I try get back to see my family as much as possible.PMy proudest achievement to date is co-promoting Obscene a monthly drum & bass night myself and my best mate Alice ( Termite ) began in 2002 when we were just both 17! It's a night dedicated to showcasing homegrown talent although once in a while we do book some of the big guns, these have included-Goldie, John B, Randall, Skinnyman, Nicky Blackmarket, L.Double, J Majik, Dylan amongst many others. The last 6 years have been immense and I'm looking forward to another few years of Obscene!

To date I have organised a wide variety of events including club nights, art exhibitions, charity fundraisers & dance performances. Recently I organised a charity fashion show called Urban Elegance as part of my uni course (we even managed to persuade John Leslie to host it), which raised £950 for Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres, an extremely worthwhile charity. I am also proud to be a director for DanceIhayami , a local Indian classical dance & martial arts collective & registered charity, hold tight for our upcoming events from 2008 onwards, gonna be BIG...At the moment most of my efforts are being concentrated on a new night called Volume which is bringing Edinburgh the best in grime, dubstep, baile funk, UK hip hop, jungle & a bit of everything really. I am really lucky to be working with a great team of people who are all dedicated to showcasing good new music. The first few nights have gone really well and I'm very excited about all the new music we are unleashing onto the public. The Skream gig we did in October was IMMENSE!I love organising events and meeting new people and would love to set up my own event company when I graduate. I am happy to organise everything from teddy bear's picnics, weddings, conferences as well as music events so if you have an event that needs organising then feel free to hit me up.Events I'm currently promoting:Past events I have organised:Obscene's 5th Birthday-Friday 23rd March 2007:

My Interests

Too many...here are some things I don't like- yahs (way too many in this beautiful city), Paris Hilton, scenesters, Hollyoaks, being away from my friends and family for too long, people that bang on about religion being the world's biggest evil (it's as bad as being a religious fanatic in my eyes), running out of tea bags, bad drum and bass remixes, Pendulum, not being able to see Daft Punk at Rockness, people with no pride, the amount of money it costs to fly to Mauritius....

I'd like to meet:

People I've lost contact with over the years, the internet is great for that. Also anyone who is passionate about being involved in events, whether it's DJs, MCs, bands, producers, graphic designers, VJs whatever putting on good events for me is about meeting people and bringing talents together to make something beautiful (or at least something rinsing!!!).

Music:

Everything, drum & bass, hip hop, techno, reggae, grime, dubstep, old skool, hardcore, electro, desi beats in fact I have so many mates that mix so many different genres of music and I'll happily go out dancing to anything. Anyway people I've seen over the last few years include (in no particular order): Mampi Swift, Goldie, The Proclaimers, The Pharcyde, The Roots, Aquasky, Basement Jaxx, Aim, The Chemical Brothers, Snoop Dogg, Roots Manuva, 2 Many DJs, Jurrasic 5, Sean Paul, N.E.R.D, Roll Deep, Grandmaster Flash, Jazzy Jeff, Green Velvet, Laurent Garnier, Jeff Mills, Stanton Warriors, Groove Armada, Derrick May, Roni Size, DJ Marky, Calibre, Logisitics, High Contrast, J Magik, Randall, Dylan, Tech Itch, John B, Nicky Blackmarket, Mauro Picotto, Ultrasonic, Digital, Teebee, DJ Hype, Zinc, Andy C, Dieselboy, Justin Robertson, L double, Ray Keith, London Elektricity, DJ Die, Krust, Jumpin Jack Frost, Spirit, Grooverider, Fabio, Kenny Ken, A sides, DJ Storm, Mickey Finn, Aphrodite, Shy FX, Total Science, People under the Stairs, Jeru the Damaga, Plusone, Souls of Mischief, Peshay, Si Smith, LTJ Bukem, Ed Rush, Optical, Bryan Gee, Marcus Intalex, Scratch Perverts, Dom & Roland, Doc Scott, Rennie Pilgrem, DJ Deekline, The Freestylers, Zed Bias, Dillinja, Lemon D, Twisted Individual, Danny C, Temper D, Chase & Status, Concord Dawn, DJ Friction, DJ SS, DJ Fierce, NU:Tone, Adam F, Bad Company, Artificial Intelligence, Pendulum, Subfocus, Gridlok, Shitmat, Herbie Hancock, Two Lone Swordsmen, Radioactiveman, Noisia, DJ Craze, T.C, DJ FU, Diplo, Fun Lovin' Criminals, The Orb, Eat Static, Hayseed Dixie, Dizzee Rascal, Wiley...this could go on for a while you get the idea though...*ALL ABOUT MY GAL TERMITE*PROFISEE: "MUSIC IN HD" MIX - CLICK PIC TO DOWNLOADPROFISEE: "NEW YEAR REVOLUTIONS" MIX - CLICK PIC TO DOWNLOAD

Movies:

Will need to come back to this section, way too many to list just now, I'm a member of LOVEFILM.com so I watch LOADS of movies...Really into old 60s/70s flicks. Most things with Pam Grier, Raquel Welch and Ursula Andress get a big thumbs up from me as they are beautiful, strong women who have some much more style and class than the supposed stars of today, the Paris Hilton's and all the wannabe size zeros of this world could learn a thing or two about beauty from the stars of the 70s.

Television:

I LOVE watching football (especially the mighty Hibernian Football Club and Manchester United). Also Formula 1, The Apprentice, Dragon's Den, The Simpsons, South Park, Heroes, American Dad, Eastenders, Neighbours, Lost, The Sopranos, Skins, League of Gentlemen, Adam & Joe, Trigger Happy TV, Red Dwarf, The A-Team, any nature documentries about elephants, any travel show about Mauritius ("You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first, and then Heaven, and that Heaven was copied after Mauritius."-Mark Twain, enough said really), Family Fortunes, Peep Show, Blind Date...

Books:

Not a big book reader unfortunately, never seem to have the time although recently I was lucky to have the Philip Pullman 'His Dark Material' trilogy read to me in full by my boyfriend...Ahh...! Do have a lot of autobiographies and photography books...I absolutely ADORE Robert McGinnis's art it's ultra cool...

Heroes:

My parents. My dad left Mauritius when he was 18 and spent 1 month on a boat to get to the UK so he could train to become a nurse, my mum came here aged 18 too having never been abroad in her life, neither of them had much money and they have worked hard all their lives to get where they are today. Alice AKA Termite AKA the best mate a girl could have, we've known each other since primary school and she's one in a million. Also all the people who have helped me follow my dreams, especially those that have helped with running my events, you know who you are and you know I love you. Big special shout to Stewart, LLoyd & Jaq at The Venue it was an absolute pleasure to work with you guys and believe it or not you all taught me a lot about running events (and a lot about life too!). G*Mac too for being the best promoter in Edinburgh, Manga is still the best night Edinburgh has seen in my lifetime(in my humble opinion)! Also Bobby from La Belle Angele for giving Al and I the opportunity to start Obscene, would never have happened otherwise.
