Eco-Gifts is a company recently started by a Persian Gulf War Veteran who is also currently a college student. The profit earned from the sale of merchandise is used to pay for college tuition. Eco-Gifts is also a result of applying the principles learned from the college courses taken. All of Eco-Gifts’ products are made with sustainable ingredients and environmentally safe materials. Eco-Gifts is starting with candles and intends to add more eco-friendly products in time.
Candles are eco-friendly in many ways. One can conserve electricity by lighting candles and some candles can be made using sustainable ingredients such as soy wax and palm wax. Eco-Gifts currently makes soy wax candles and palm wax candles with either cotton or hemp wicks. The scent used in the candles is also sold for use in soap, lotions, and incense. Also, Eco-Gifts uses twice the amount of scent as other candles so the scent is stronger and lasts much longer.
The palm wax is imported from Malaysia and it crystallizes naturally as the wax cools in its mold. Palm wax is derived from the palm frawns of the carnauba palm tree. If you have ever scraped your fingernail across a typical palm frawn and noticed the wax that comes off, the palm wax is the same but from a different tree. Eco-Gifts’ palm wax candles burn for about 100 hours.
The soy wax is derived from soybeans and is edible on its own if not for the candle dye, scent, and wick. Eco-Gifts currently decorates its soy candles with natural amethyst, peridot, rose quartz, lapis lazuli, howlite, red jasper, black tourmaline, turquoise, and tiger eye. Other stones, such as fluorite and amber, will be available soon. Eco-Gifts recycles the stones from used candles. When you are finished burning your candle, you can return the majority of your stones to Eco-Gifts for a $2 discount on your next candle purchase. Eco-Gifts’ soy wax candles burn for about 200 hours.
It is recommended that burning candles are not left unattended. Please blow out your candles before going to sleep and before leaving your house. For the best results, the candles should not be placed under a ceiling fan, next to an a/c vent, or near a draft from an open window. If the flame is consistently blown to one side, the candle might burn unevenly. It is also recommended that the wicks are trimmed to about one quarter of an inch, before each use, for the best flame.
