Michael Scott - Mandolin

Mandolin is exactly what your music is missing.

About Me

Born in West Virginia. Raised in Northern Illinois. And now living in Nashville. I have had the great opportunity of recording and performing with many great artists and musicians during my 15 year career. When I first discovered the mandolin, there was no way I could have predicted the courage it would take to break out of the stereotype that haunts this instrument. My goal is to help others gain awareness of the vast range and sound that the instrument is capable of creating. After receiving the Hibbard Perry Scholarship in 2003 to attend the American Mandolin and Guitar Summer School in Rhode Island, under the direction of the virtuoso Classical and Choro mandolinist Marilynn Mair, I began a new path of study. And after auditioning and being awarded a place at the prestigious Trinity College of Music in London to study Mandolin Performance in 2005, a strong foundation had been poured. By this time, I had invested three years of study in Classical Guitar Performance and Jazz Mandolin at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. But a different path would present itself to me and I received a B.A. in Music Business and Marketing in 2006. Now, I have found myself living in Nashville and working for a major label, learning the specifics of an industry that I have spent many years in the trenches performing in. I am now a freelance musician as well as the founding member of the mandolin/guitar duo, Duetto Arioso. Which performs a range of Classical, Jazz, and Brazilian Choro.
