Hi, thank you for visiting us here at Exploration Iowa. We produce videos which combine two of our life-long passions - music and visual imagery. Our mission is to promote Midwest culture by producing multi-camera videos that showcase musical performances, artist interviews, visual arts and important environmental issues along with unusually high quality sound. Exploration Iowa is creating an on-line library promoting both Midwestern video and culture by making it available on the World Wide Web. Our library at www.youtube.com/explorationiowa is open 24 hours a day and we encourage our visitors to cut and paste anything that strikes their fancy and repost it anywhere out there on the electronic ether. www.explorationiowa.com

Exploration Iowa covers Rocktoberfest 2009 All proceeds went to benefit Autism awareness...

Rocktoberfest got started Friday, September 25, with a trio of hard-rocking bands: Left of Center at 7 p.m., Menace at 8:30, and finishing up with Johnny Trash at 10:30 p.m. The music continued Saturday, September 26, with a varied lineup that started in the afternoon and continued into the evening. Kicking things off at 2 p.m. was Denny Garcia and Friends, followed by the indie-pop of Alma Sub Rosa, fronted by vocalist Kristina Castenada at 3:30 p.m. The Cruise Band took the stage at 5:00 p.m. followed by up-and-coming Madison blues-tinged rockers Fedora taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. Opening up for the headliner at 8 p.m. was BlackBloom, arguably the hardest working indie-rock band in the Tri-States.

Returning to headline Rocktoberfest’s second year from 9:30 p.m. was champion guitar slinger Pistol Pete. The Chicago-based musician has gained notoriety by winning the Midwest division of a Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar competition giving him the opportunity to meet Jimi’s father, Al Hendrix. Pistol Pete has opened for a number of rock and blues legends including Cheap Trick, Foreigner, Foghat, Traffic, Slash, Buddy Miles, Otis Rush, Koko Tayler and Buddy Guy, just to name a few. Pete was a finalist in the Albert King International Blues Competition, and has also appeared on Show Time at the Apollo. He’s performed all over the United States, as well as in Canada, Europe, and Japan.

Videos coming soon. Thanks to Chuck Minnick for putting on such a great event. Still images courtesy of Death2Man photography. Audio is being produced by Tim Ringgenberg.

"Tall Corn Euforia" A Musical Documentary

"Tall Corn Euforia" - A 90 minute musical documentary shot July 11th and 12th 2008. Eight Iowa producers spent that weekend filming Camp Euforia, a home grown music festival outside the small Iowa village of Lone Tree. The documentary includes musical performances by host band Euforquestra, with Public Property, Uniphonics, The Blue Band, Samba Nasso, The Diplomats of Solid Sound, Fat Maw Rooney, Bumpus, The Grosso Family Band, Hunab, Mr Babers Neighbors, and Family Groove Company rounding out the film.
Five cameras were rolling most of the weekend and the documentary will include interviews with campers, vendors, musicians, and festival planners. The film also features still photography by Brandon Jens, Dawn McCausland, and Doug Zaletel. Audio portions of the film were provided by Iowa Public Radio, Minstrel Studios, and Exploration Iowa.
Exploration Iowa producer and editor Dean Wellman has painstakingly edited this feature film over the past five months and has added his own brand of fun and visual effects to the film. This is the largest project he's done to date, he couldn't have done it without the help of a fine and dedicated crew that weekend.
