PERSEVERANCE PAYING OFF FOR DEE JAY, SONG WRITER AND PRODUCER NOTORIOUS.Notorious is an artist who has fortified himself with the right 'ingredients' to be a success in the very competitive music business. Notorious was born and raised in the district of Race Track, Clarendon. From an early age he developed a love for music. While attending the Denbigh Primary and Denbigh Secondary (now Denbigh High) he deejayed at school functions as well as community concerts. Being an big fan of deejay Rodney Price, otherwise called Bounty killer, he was influenced by his (Bounty's) style of deejaying which shows in Notorious song. Notorious was encouraged by his close friend Wild Mexican, a deejay from May Pen, Clarendon, to take up music as a career. In 1993 Notorious made his first big break at Reggae Ram Jam. In 1994 he recorded his first single (NAH FI GET) he later recorded (NAH LIVE INNA NUH PAST) and (MORE LOVE). he started to record for the time one label which was responsible for the monster hit song done by Bounty Killer and Barrington Levy (Living Dangerously) He also did some work with Dennis Star, King Jammy's and pioneer producer Winston Riley, for his Techniques label which had produce other artist soch as Tenor Saw, Sanchez and Tinga Stewart. Notorious later moved to kingston, the capital of dancehall and reggae music, as he was determined to make it in the music business. As a deejay he mastered the art of performing live on stage and a hit at the big show in Clarendon, Reggae Ram Jam. "I created major damage at Reggae Ram Jam for five years," he said. "I also mashed up the show Fresh 1996, 97 which was held at Fort Clarence. I got some favourable media report at Fesh. I also performed at Rockers Awards and Sumfest in Montego Bay."In 1998 he scored his first big hit titled 'Samson,' which he recorded for Million Doller Family. The song enjoyed lots of airplay and made it on the Canada top 100 reggae chart. "I was to start my first European and US tour in that year (1999) but it never happen because I was stabbed," Notorious explained. The doctor said it scratched my lungs. I wasn't able to go, i had to take time off to heal. It was a very bad time for me ,knowing that my career was about to take off and then that happened (stabbing incident) he indicated.Notorious returned to the musical scene in August 200 and journeyed on the Independence Road Show on Independence night, performing at five shows in five different parishes for the same night. "I just had ahunger to touch the stage again. I got some big responses at every show and it was really encouraging for me, as I realize that I still had it in me, he said. On January 6, 2001, Notorious migrated to the United Kingdom to study music technology as wanted to be more knowledgeable in the field. He studied music technology at the City of Bath College for two and da half years. While there, he recorded his first album for his own label Victorious Entertainment. Luciano gave me the name Victorious when he came to the Uk on a tour, "I decided to stick with that name. Notorious added: "Living in the Uk was an eye opener for me, as I get to learn about the whole music business and developed the right attitude and professionalism, which is very inportant. I also got a lot of experience opening for some big names in the music, such as luciano, Sizzla, Sanchez, Beres Hammond, as well as Shaggy and Mary J. Blige. Asked what it felt like opening for multi-platinum recording artistes Shaggy and Mary J. Blige, he said: "The feeling was just great. I wasn't dat nervous, I just went on stage and did my thing." After completing his studies, Notorious came back to Jamaica and set up a recording studio in his community of Race Track. The studio is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. He has been working with some youths in on out his community who have an interest in music,as well as established artistes. I see it as my responsibility to help out the youths in my area. Music is an avenue to make it in life. A lot of youth in my community have a love for music but don't get the chance to pursue it, so i provide the means of letting them realise their dreams.
