Alongside Acid Mothers Temple and White Heaven, MARBLE SHEEP are the japanese psychedelic rock gods. The raw, hypnotic energy of their ecstatic live shows is often being described as an cosmic blend of the power and riffing of bands like MC5 and the Stooges mixed with astral spirit of a Grateful Dead or Hawkwind Jam.
Marble Sheep were founded by the ex-White Heaven guitarist Ken Matsutani, who is also the owner of the famous Captain Trip record label and distribution, in 1987. In the beginning, the band played extensive jams, experimental improvisations as well as Velvet Underground- and Pink Fairies-covers. But soon the raw energy and the rock'n'roll spirit of bands like MC5 and the Stooges would mix and grow within MARBLE SHEEP's music and sound. So we're talking wild, ecstatic, hypnotic, 60's, psychedelic, noise, interstellar, groove rock'n'roll here - the japanese way ! Thus one shouldn't really be unprepared to witnesses a white sheep with a guitar taking the stage during one of their concerts! MARBLE SHEEP are the Merry Pranksters of the 21st century. They want to propel their listeners out into the vastness of the universe, into otherworldly spheres. And these spheres are probably as far out as those someone like Sun Ra moved in ..... have a nice flight !
