About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorYou'd think ten years of broken guitar strings, cramped fingers, and cold hotel rooms would be enough to make any rocker at least consider taking a break from his chosen profession. Not Captain Poon. It took him "about two seconds" to realize what to do after his seminal hard rock outfit Gluecifer broke up in 2005: start another band. That new band is Bloodlights, formed in January of 2006. The Captain teamed up with bassist Ron Elly from punkers NPB, former Amulet drummer Jonas Thire (later to be replaced by Nico von Shaefer), and guitarist Howie B. for this new musical endeavor (Poon assumed lead vocals and extra guitar duties). The name comes from the phenomenon of seeing red flashes right before passing out after consuming too much of everything. It is especially common in colder regions, such as Scandinavia and the Yukon, where excessive consumption of everything is often mandatory just to make it through the night. After a long year of writing and rehearsing together, Bloodlights entered a Berlin studio to record their debut album. The man behind the boards for these intense sessions (which took place specifically in Studio Wong/Kreuzberg) was none other than Monster Magnet's Phil Caivano. After five weeks and around four hundred hours of work, Caivano whisked the hot tapes away to Vancouver, where the legendary Mike Fraser mixed the album. Now, with their debut officially in the can and noted A&R man Ole Kirchoff as their manager (Kirchoff also manages Brit rockers The Darkness), Poon and the boys are eagerly awaiting the release of the first rock offering and the massive touring that is sure to follow. In the interim, Bloodlights has played a few hand-picked shows in exotic locales such as Spain and Germany, slowly spreading their melodic rock disease. An epidemic is sure to break out once their untitled record is released to the general public.
