About Me

History
In 2002 the Melkweg launched a very special concept: a night that introduced a new sound to Amsterdam and the Netherlands, a sound from the latino side of the world.
Even though a lot of people thought so , this night was not a salsa night or a Latin House night, but a night in which resident DJ Eduardo and guest DJ’s were mixing up styles like Spanish Ska, Rock ,Pop, Hiphop with traditional latino styles like Salsa, Merengueand Bachata. The thing bringing it together was that every record played was in spanish language.

Patchanka versus Mestizo
This mix started as “Patchanka”, called after a track of Manu Chao, the godfather of this music style. He started this sound but it was taken over by a new generation of musicians from Spain and Mid- and South America. A sound of protest but given with energetic music. Later on this music style got better know as MESTIZOQue Pasa Specials
Que Pasa was also special because it did not end with the music: great decoration and specials like “Dia de los Muertos” and the many bands that visitied Que Pasa like El Gran Silencio, Panteon Rococo, Amparanoia, but also Manu Chao himself.
Que Pasa was also the first event to present artists like Juanes and Orishas.
Que Pasa became one of the most popular nights of Amsterdam and was also invited a lot at festivals like Lowlands and other events.Reggaeton @ Friday
Reggaeton was first to be heard at Que Pasa, starting the first Reggaeton special in March 2005.
Because of the enormous succes, it was decided to move to the Friday, on which the night made a new mix for more then 2 years, this time called:
'Que Pasa? Pop/Rock Mestizo, Urban Latino y Reggaeton'New Night
Arrived in 2007 we are satisfied by the distribution of Mestizo and now after celebrating the 5th anniversary it’s time to make place for a new weekly night. The Thursday will start hosting a night with the same thought: a mix of several traditional but also modern styles, this time from East Europe. The music is called Balkan Beatz and the night is called “Propaganda” and promotes Balkan Beatz, Russian Disko, but also still Mestizo and BeyondQue Pasa will continue monthly so keep checking our agenda!
