The Baggys - Mad for it.

About Me

..centerWell, what can you say about The Baggys that hasn’t already been said ...
"...they turn up with musical instruments and they’re punctual..." - Gardeners World
"...If you get the chance you should go see The Baggys at your earliest convenience, they have to be seen to be believed..." - Entertainment Lastnight
"...I never knew you could do that with a guitar..." - Rolling Sloane Magazine
"...Yowser, It wasn’t until they launched into Brown Eyed Girl that I realized I was at somebody’s wedding and had missed The Baggys gig by several miles..." - Kerrump
"...I laughed until I had an embolism..." - Half Cut
"...Sup Dog? Pure..." - Flip Flop Collection
"...It was awfully loud and the drummer said a rude word. The angry one frightened me with his sexual dancing, and the fat one hurt my ears..." - Family Circle
Having survived playing together in previous rock bands, the lads (Doug, Pete, Will, and John) decided to go "all funky", revive the Madchester sound and inflict it on a new generation. Having adopted new "baggy" personas (OurKid, Mungo, TinTin and Trigger), the next step was to wade through the plethora of Madchester anthems, and come up with a winning set list. Containing classics from The Charlatans, The Stone Roses, The Happy Mondays and The Mock Turtles (to name but a few), the Baggys show was ready to hit the road. So, if you have a problem/gig in the Bristol area, and no one else can help/play, and if you can find/detox them, maybe you can hire ... THE BAGGYS!!!
We have recently been recording a demo, so that we can inflict our music on people who don’t actually leave their houses. Feels free to listen to the tracks (at the top of the page), watch the funny fat one trying to dance during a gig in the video (below) and view the photos (above) of how we went about recording our distinctive noise/sound.

Influences: I bet everyone puts "Alcohol" or "Drugs" in this box. The Baggys are totally influenced by the Baggy/Madchester scene of the late eighties, and early to mid nineties. As a Madchester tribute band, we play anything from The Farm, Soup Dragons, Charlatans, Stone Roses, EMF, James etc. etc.

Sounds Like: We sound as far as possible like those bands we are trying to emulate. This can be quite difficult when you consider all the production and studio shenanigans which went into producing baggy tracks. There might be a trace of rock guitar left over from the previous band which helps to fatten the sometimes over simple baggy sound.

Our Kid's Letter from America

Singing

Singing, is difficult. Initially, the thought was, that being backing singers, we would just need to open our mouths at roughly the right place during the song, and lovely harmonious noise would escap...
