Paulie Gatto is a soldier in the Corleone Family, in Peter Clemenza's crew, and was the one responsible the the attempted killing of Don Corleone while he was buying fruit. He set up the killing, telling their enemies like Virgil Sollozzo where the Vito would be when it was a good time for the hit. The hit however didn't work and Sonny Corleone saw Paulie responsible once a fish wrapped in Luca Brasi's vest was delivered to the compound.
