New CD "Urban Nomad" due out in July!

About Me

I'm a saxophonist (tenor and soprano mostly) from Houston, TX originally- and yes, I went to the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, like so many other musicians from Houston. I moved to Chicago to go to school at DePaul, then to LA to finish school at CalArts, and then to Brooklyn to live and play music. I had a few different groups in NY, mainly a trio with Joe Martin and Owen Howard, sometimes a quartet with Ben Monder added. I also played in and wrote for a collective called Ilinx that included saxophonist John O'Gallagher and Owen. Both those groups played numerous venues around NYC and made recordings that are completely unavailable in any form anywhere now, except maybe in the back of my mom's closet somewhere. After 3 years there, Amy (my wife) and I moved back to Chicago, then to Washington state, then back to Chicago again (that's the condensed version- move forward several years). Lately, I've been playing in several bands as a sideman- with the Ryan Cohan Quartet/Sextet, the Dana Hall Quartet, the Mike Allemana Quartet, Ted Sirota's Rebel Souls, and pianists Dan Cray and Jordan Baskin, as well as the occasional gig with guitarists Jeff Parker and Kyle Asche. I also lead my own quartet with Clark Sommers, Ron Perrillo, and George Fludas. Our new cd, Urban Nomad, came out on Origin Records in July 2008. Currently, I live in Chicago with Amy and our daughter, Esme- that's her pool in the picture.Selected Discography: Rule of Three (Liberated Zone, 2003) Ryan Cohan, One Sky (Motema 2007) Collage(2007) John Moulder, Trinity (Origin, 2006) Mike Allemana Quartet, Inner Rhythm (2006) Ted Sirotas Rebel Souls, Breeding Resistance (Delmark 2004) Vs. the forces of evil (Naim 2001) Ryan Cohan, Here and Now (Sirocco 2001) Godspeed You Black Emperor, Yanqui U.X.O. Jordan

We saw Petra today- a really long drive from Jordan (3 hrs each way).  It was worth it, though.  Walking down that ancient road through the rocks was pretty amazing- as our guide said, equal parts man...
