DJ Reelax
Three times South Australian DMA DJ of the Year
Reelax is without question one of the most respected, knowledgeable,
talented and hard working figures in Adelaide's dance music scene. He
has combined regular local club gigs with interstate and overseas bookings in
addition to maintaining his position at the forefront of dance music related
media. From Monday to Sunday the man has his head in music. He is committed
to the ever rapidly expanding Dance Music Art Form with this being apparent
in his ever bustling schedule.
Reelax makes an effort to find music he is passionate about. This was recognised
by the movers and groovers of Adelaide's radio waves, Fresh FM, with them
asking him to present a number of shows. This has given their audience the unique
opportunity to experience his funked up style.
Most notable of the many shows he presents on the station is his Friday night
tastemaker, 'Release', which airs weekly and is responsible for
bringing the successful sounds of the world's dance music
scene to Adelaide often long before they are proven winners.
Success it seems is something thing that REELAX is becoming ever increasingly
familiar with, as his rise to prominence and most wanted status has been swift,
even by dance music standards. REELAX's first alliance with decks came
in 1998 at Adelaide's 'Lizard Lounge' where he burst onto
the Adelaide Club scene going on to win the South Australian DMA award Rookie
/ Up and Coming DJ of the Year (SA '98 - 99'). The awards
have continued to flow in with Reelax scooping SA DMA DJ of the Year
awards ('99 & 00') and ('00 & 01') as well.
And in 2002 the accolades came on a national scale with the 2002 National DMA
Award for DJ of the Year (SA) being added to the already crowded shelf space.
Since his unrivalled and explosive start REELAX has played in just about every
venue in South Australia and has had residencies at many of Adelaide's
most important club nights. His popularity and ability to constantly inspire
a dancefloor has lead to his name being included on many of the large international
parties travelling around Australia such as Ministry of Sound
and Gatecrasher as well as major local calendar events such as
Stardust and Strange Days. Warming up dance floors
for international dons such as Carl Cox, Anthony Pappa, Ashley Casselle, James
Zabelia, Tayo, Ferry Corsten, Ian Pooley, Miguel Migs, Paul Johnson, as well
as Australian superstars like GT, Andy Van, Phil K, Reelax has well established
himself as a future hero.
Reelax's appeal has not been limited to just Australian audiences. Last
year he was invited to play at a number of parties throughout Asia and across
Europe, being invited back to play in 2007. Requests have piled in from countries
as far ranging as Ibiza, England, Germany, Japan and Singapore with the highlight
no doubt being his appearance at the upcoming Berlin Love Parade.
Musically, Reelax's tastes vary far and wide but his passion lies within
the more progressive sounds found throughout the broad spectrum that is dance
music. However, not wanting to be pigeon holed, Reelax can also be found spinning
deep, funky house sounds to many a packed dance floor. Taking elements anywhere
from US house, breakbeat, and progressive house and beyond Reelax's style
is one that appeals to those who like electro emotion, hypnotic grooves but
most of all those who still want it as funky-as-a-monkey.
