Asperger's Syndrome Awareness

Not being able to speak is not the same as not having anything to say.

About Me

Asperger's syndrome is an autistic spectrum disorder.

That means it has many of the same characteristics as autism - they just don't appear as severe. Some of those traits include talking too much or too little, avoiding eye contact, trouble interacting in social situations, interest in one particular subject, and, in general, not fitting in quite right.

Autistic spectrum disorders now affect 1 out of 166 kids in the U.S., so it's important to remember that everyone is not always what they seem. Realize that traits that might be considered rude are sometimes the affect of an autistic mind - diagnosed or undiagnosed - trying to find its way around in a strannge world. Respect differences and think of creative ways to make everyone feel welcome in society.
