"Outsider Composer" and Poly-artist
An eclectic artist, Daniel is active as a composer/musician, writer, sound designer and visual artist. Being largely a self-taught composer, musician, and visual artist, he has had to make his way outside the mainstream academic music and art establishments. One hears of "outsider painters" who produce skillful and significant work outside the world of galleries and museums and academe. Why not outsider composers?
Although he considers himself largely self-taught, Daniel studied Music Theory and Composition with Thomas Addison at the Mannes School of Music and studied Classical Guitar with Lezwek Cesarczyk at New York University.
He was a founding member of the improvisatory ensembles The Bubba Noisecore, Soapbitch, and naked idiot and has recently founded "Corde au Couteau," of which his two alter egos are currently the only members.
Daniel is also active as a composer and sound designer (and sometimes writer) for various theater productions, mostly in the New York City area. From 2002-2004, he was the Composer/Sound Designer in Residence for Thèâtre OUF!, a multi-lingual New York-based theater company that devises original works through a collaborative rehearsal process focusing on improvisation and physical action.
A graduate of New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, he studied Playwriting with Lenora Champagne and Steven Smith and studied Painting with Michael St. John.
His paintings, photographs, and drawings have been acquired for private collections in New York City and São Paulo, Brazil.
