Composer - Eclectic Classical Music

About Me

...a native Brooklynite, Howard's music has been perfromed by notables like Max Lifchitz, MaryKay McGarvey, Rachel Rosales, the Sound Symphony Orchestra, and the Gotham Chamber Orchestra.

Howard is especially proud of his 3 Rhapsodies for voice and orchestra (Soprano Rhapsody, Second Rhapsody, and The Song of Wandering Aengus). He is currently working on a new set of songs for soprano and quarter-tone guitar, a wind quintet entitled 5 Folk Songs, and developing an opera libretto based on Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter".

Educated at Columbia University, Howard was Curriculum Director at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. He has also served on the music faculty of New York City Technical College.

When not doing things musical, Howard sees as many movies as he can and indulges in all things culinary.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: The first two tracks of music are excerpts from my "Second Rhapsody" for soprano and strings. The recording is from the premiere by soprano Christine Sperry and the Gotham Chamber Orchestra. It's 10 years later and their performance still takes my breath away. (if you'd like to hear more, the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra and soprano Kathryn Favazza will be performing it on Dec. 8 - details in the Upcoming Shows box)
My violin sonata was premiered on April 21, 2007 at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. The wonderful Masha Lankovsky is the violinist and I am accompanying her on the piano.
Influences: Claude Debussy, Toru Takemitsu, Oliver Messiaen.
