Raised on the cold Detroit streets, BOP had been honing his craft for more than ten years when he finally received the opportunity to work in the studio to write his first album. However all plans were put on hold as 3 consecutive military conflicts called BOP into action for 6 years. Based out of Germany, BOP served in the US Army in Kosovo, Somalia and in Desert Storm (Iraq).
Military life has since transformed BOP from a street hustler into a disciplined, focused and wise writer and artist. His life-transforming experiences provide the framework for his street-wise lyrics and oft-times poetic philosophies on thought-provoking issues, all of which are expressed in this long overdue album.
As long-time childhood friends, BOP aka Calvin Smith and producer Ron Allen finally connected to finish what had been started over 8 years ago. "This project is only the beginning, I mean we didn't have room for all the ideas we came up with when we finally got into the studio!" says Bop. BOP’s debut album "Throwin’ Dirt", is a release of creative energy that is only the beginning of the making of the next rap legend.
