I am an 19 year old music student. I have been playing guitar since december 02.
I first started playing guitar at a young age but gave up due to having a les paul copy (pretty big for me at the time), and having a bad teacher. I was put off learning enough to sell my guitar. After nagging my mum for ages i got another guitar for christmas 2002. I was much more inspired because i wanted to play muse songs.
At A.L.N.S in Portsmouth i took lessons of a guitar teacher called Rob Green. Rob helped me alot and pointed me in the right direction. then one day in class i found a video of steve Vai playing his solo on the G3 (with eric Johnson) and that really opened my eyes to what you can do on a guitar.
For along time Vai and Satriani were my two biggest influences. I worked on technique alot because of this. At the moment my main influences are Paul Gilbert, Dream Theater and Muse. I have recently fallen in love with Johnny A's music since seeing him in bournmouth this year (2006) with Joe Satriani. He was incredible.
Recently my style has started to change. I have had guitar lessons with Gary Shaw from South Downs college. I Really think Gary is the most un-discovered guitarist ever! His note choice mixed with technique is fantastic. Top guy aswell.
I am attending ACM in guildford this september where i will be trying to form a prog metal-ish band that can actually write music. I give guitar lessons in my area which is petersfield and portsmouth. If you going to ACM, i hope to see you there!
Thats about it for now......
